7Artisans Sprite 24-96mm T2.9 Super35 Cine Zoom Lens is Now Available for $1,999

7Artisans Photoelectric Sprite 24-96mm T2.9 is a cine zoom lens that covers Super35 sensors and comes with either a Canon EF or ARRI PL lens mount (user interchangeable). It features an 86mm front filter thread, a de-clicked aperture ring, cine-style 0.8 MOD focus, iris, and zoom gear rings, and focus marks in both feet and meters. The lens is now available for purchase starting at $1,999.

We first wrote about this interesting Super35 cinema zoom lens from 7Artisans back in March 2024. Combining an impressive zoom range of 24-96mm with a constant aperture of T2.9 and an affordable price is not an easy task, but it seems that the company did well. After kind of successful Kickstarter campaign that ran from March 21 until May 9, 2024 (with a total of 40 backers), the lens is now available for retail. Let’s quickly go through its features and specs.

The Sprite 24-96mm cine lens features a 13-bladed aperture that is constant through the entire zoom range and provides values between T2.9 and T22. This 4x zoom ratio lens covers Super35 (APS-C) image sensors.

All rings (focus, aperture, and zoom) feature industry-standard 0.8 MOD gears for using standard cine-style lens control systems such as follow focus motors. The aperture ring is, of course, de-clicked. The lens provides distance markings in both feet and meters.

7Artisans claims the lens is parfocal and that focus breathing is minimal. The horizontal angle of view is from 66 to 18°. The minimum focusing distance is 39.4″ (1 m).

In its category, the 7Artisans Sprite is quite compact – it offers a front diameter of 94mm and is 8.9″ (22.5 cm) long. With a weight of 5.03 lb (2.28 kg) it is not so heavy either (for a fast cine zoom lens). There is an 86mm filter thread at the front.

Price and availability

The 7Artisans Photoelectric Sprite 24-96mm T2.9 lens is available for $1,999 (lens only). It can be purchased with either the Canon EF or the ARRI PL mount, but if needed, you can buy the additional mount separately and switch between them. Additionally, 7Artisans offers teleconverters and lens mount adapters to go with the Sprite cine zoom lens.

I would say direct competition comes mostly from other Chinese lens manufacturers such as DZOFilm, Venus Optics (Laowa), SIRUI, or CHIOPT. It will be interesting to see how the lens sells compared to the other affordable cine zooms.
