Creative Solutions Accessories for the RED V-RAPTOR Announced

Creative Solutions (a division of the Vitec Group) has worked closely with RED to launch multiple co-branded camera accessories and production packs for the new V-RAPTOR camera system. These accessories include the DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0″ LCD monitor and a production pack lite/production pack with everything you need to get started. Let’s take a closer look at all these new accessories!

The RED V-RAPTOR is the company’s latest high-end cinema camera and the first member of the DSMC3 lineup. RED officially announced the camera in late September 2021 after a long tease. The V-RAPTOR features incredible specifications, thanks to an 8K VV sensor capable of recording footage at up to 120fps, with a claimed dynamic range of up to 17 stops.

As always with RED, the cameras take a long time to ship because the pre-order queue is enormous, and the pandemic did not help either. However, Creative Solutions has just announced that its production packs are finally ready to ship, along with the DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0″ LCD monitor.

DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0″ LCD

The first accessory launched by Creative Solutions and RED is the DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0″ LCD monitor. This on-camera monitor has a 1920 x 1200 resolution with a peak brightness of 1300 nits and a high pixel density of 322 PPI. Unlike previous RED on-camera monitors that were very dim, to say the least, this DSMC3 version should finally be daylight-viewable.

However, what does not change is that the DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0″ LCD is cableless. Indeed, all you have to do is screw it to one of the V-RAPTOR pogo ports, and it’ll provide a power/video signal to the monitor. Furthermore, suppose you want to put the monitor somewhere else on your camera. In that case, you can connect it to the camera via a single USB-C style DSMC3 RMI cable to provide video/power to the monitor. I love these straightforward solutions, where you don’t need to plug an SDI or power cable into your on-camera monitor.

The DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0″ LCD can display 100% DCI-P3 color space. The monitor also features complete control over the camera via a new responsive menu system, powered by SmallHD PageOS. This also means that you’ll have access to various monitoring tools, including Waveform, Vectorscope, Histogram, False Color, Color Picker, Pixel Zoom, and so on.

Last but not least, the monitor comes with a removable tilt arm that allows you to rotate it 180 degrees and provides multiple mounting points.

Creative Solutions V-RAPTOR production packs

Creative Solutions has also launched two production packs for the RED V-RAPTOR: the production pack lite, and production pack “regular.”

Both packs were announced at the same time as the launch of the camera. If you missed it, here is what you’ll find in the production pack lite:

• One V-RAPTOR 8K VV Camera System
• One DSMC3 RED Touch 7” LCD​
• Two RED PRO CFexpress 660GB and a RED CFexpress Card Reader
• Two REDVOLT MICRO-V batteries and a RED Compact Dual V-Lock Charger
• A V-RAPTOR Top Handle
• One V-RAPTOR Expander Blade

• One V-RAPTOR Quick Release Platform Pack
• And a DSMC3 RED 5-Pin to Dual XLR Adapter

As you can tell, there is a solid basis to get you started when you receive the camera!

If you want more and be “rental ready”, the production pack adds two extra REDVOLT MICRO-V 98Wh batteries, one V-RAPTOR Tactical Top Plate, some top handle extensions, one V-RAPTOR Advanced Adapter (V-Lock or Gold Mount), a V-RAPTOR Quick Release Platform Pack, V-RAPTOR Side Ribs, a V-RAPTOR Production Plates, and RED Production Grips.

Price and availability

All products are available for pre-order now. The DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0″ LCD retails for $2750, the V-RAPTOR Production Lite package is $32.000, and the Production package is $35.000.
