The RED KOMODO can be controlled directly via a supported SmallHD monitor using the highly acclaimed SmallHD Camera Control plugin. The new RED V-RAPTOR is now being added to the list of supported cameras so this update will certainly be welcomed by RED users!
With the software upgrade, the name also changes: Camera Control for KOMODO becomes Camera Control for RED RCP2 Cameras (KOMODO, DSMC3). This additional functionality is provided via a free software update for owners of the original SmallHD Camera Control for KOMODO software (otherwise it’s $400).
The updated software also includes the enhanced functionality of wireless camera control via Teradek’s Bolt 4K Monitor Module.
SmallHD x RED
This is not the first time SmallHD enables some sort of camera control to their lineup of on-camera monitors. You can get camera control for ARRI cameras as well.
Mastering Color
By combining SmallHD’s PageOS 4 for their monitors with Camera Control for RED RCP2 cameras, the SmallHD on-camera monitors are now even more powerful tools, not only for assessing important parameters of the captured image, but also for controlling the camera to which they are connected. Very useful, I’d say.
For now, the Focus Pro, and Smart 7 Monitors (Cine 7, Indie7, and 702 Touch) by SmallHD are supported.
Bundles
You can purchase different bundles or just the software itself. Just be aware of the fact that you need at least two things to actually control your RED KOMODO or V-Raptor:
So just the software only makes sense if you already own the above adapters/cables. If not, SmallHD offers another bundle with both included for $500 (instead of $400 software only).
If you already have purchased the original Camera Control for KOMODO software, this update which adds support for the V-RAPTOR is free of charge.
Two more bundles, one includes the SmallHD Cine 7 monitor and one contains the Indie 7 monitor, are also available.
