Matthews BM1 Bulb Mount – Make Astera NYX Bulb & Aputure B7c Grip Compatible

Both the Astera NYX and Aputure B7c LED bulbs may be quite handy on their own, but when it comes to attaching them to something other than a standard lamp socket on set, things can get a bit tricky. Matthews Studio Equipment is here to help with its BM1 Bulb Mount.

Having a magic light bulb on set can help in many situations. Both the Aputure B7c (review here) and the Astera NYX bulb can be operated with an internal battery and are both app-controlled, RGB and dimmable. Pretty handy, indeed. But how do you mount them properly if you’re not using a regular lamp socket, but something else?

Matthews BM1 Bulb Mount

The answer to The answer to this question lies in a very simple product from Matthews Studio Equipment, but one that is very versatile and a perfect match for the two LED bulb products mentioned above. The Matthews BM1 Bulb Mount basically bridges the gap between smart bulbs in the form of traditional household bulbs and a variety of common grip solutions you’ll find on every set.

With it you can properly mount one of those bulbs to anything using standard grip gear. No shitty rigs needed.

The Matthews BM1 Bulb Mount is made of black nylon, so there are no electronics to be found here. Think of it more as an adapter between an E26/E27 thread and a 1/4″-20 socket on the other side. That’s about it.

  • E26 / E27 standard lamp socket thread accepts LED bulbs
  • 1/4″-20 female insert fits MicroGrip Pin, MicroGrip Rod, and other standard gear
  • Low-profile matte surface does not reflect glare
  • Mates easily with Aputure® and Astera® LED Bulbs

Although this product is pretty simple and straightforward, I think it could be of great help in a variety of movie scenarios if you just want to mount such an LED bulb without sticking it to a pole or the like since otherwise they don’t have any kind of mount.

Pricing and availability

The Matthews BM1 Bulb Mount costs $6.99 and it’s available now.
