EIZO ColorEdge 27″ HDR Monitors for Editing and Post Production Announced

EIZO ColorEdge 27" HDR Monitors for Editing and Post Production Announced

The new EIZO ColorEdge 27″ HDR monitors come in two versions – CG2700S with 2560 x 1440 resolution and CG2700X with 4K UHD 3840 x 2160 resolution. Both monitors support HDR workflows and feature a built-in network connection via a USB Type-C port with up to 94W power delivery.

Having a good monitor can ease and speed up the editing and color grading process. If you are interested in something unconventional, the LG DualUp 16:18 monitor might be something to look at. If you are after a standard 16:9 monitor with an emphasis on accurate colors, you might take a look at EIZO.

The Japanese company EIZO Corporation is well known for offering high-quality products. Recently, the company introduced two new ColorEdge 27″ HDR monitor models for editing and post-production. Let’s take a look at the details.

EIZO ColorEdge 27″ HDR monitors

First of all, EIZO introduced two new 27″ 10-bit color models in the ColorEdge series. They differ in resolution and brightness:

  • EIZO CG2700S features a 2K WQHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a 400 cd/m2 (nits) brightness
  • EIZO CG2700X features a 4K UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160 and a 500 cd/m2 (nits) brightness

According to EIZO, both models support HLG (hybrid log-gamma) and the PQ (perceptual quantization) curves for displaying and editing HDR content. Both monitors, however, do not reach the 1000 nits brightness, so they need to “trick” the human eyes a bit. The optimized gamma curves render images to appear truer to how the human eye perceives the real world compared to SDR (standard dynamic range). This ensures the monitors can display HDR content for editing and color grading.

Both monitors are equipped with EIZO’s built-in sensor technology and ColorNavigator 7 color management software which allows the user to calibrate the monitor automatically at designated times, eliminating the need for a third-party calibration device and ensuring the screen stays accurate over time.

Both EIZO ColorEdge CG2700S and CG2700X models reproduce 98% of the DCI-P3 standard used in digital cinema and support the BT.2020 standard used in broadcasting. In addition, they cover 99% of the Adobe RGB color space.

When it comes to connectivity, in addition to HDMI and DisplayPort, the monitors have a USB-C port with power delivery which can transfer video and other USB signals while supplying up to 94 W (CG2700X) or 92 W (CG2700S) of power to a connected device, such as a tablet, MacBook, or other supported laptop PC. Both models also have a LAN port directly built-in for providing a stable network connection. Connecting a laptop or desktop PC via USB Type-C provides access to the network through the monitor.

EIZO’s Sync Signal is a function that automatically adjusts the monitor’s settings, such as input range and input color format, according to the video signal to ensure color settings stay consistent throughout production.

According to EIZO, the backside of the new ColorEdge monitors incorporates a new punched metal design that allows for more airflow keeping the noise level of the internal fan down. Both monitors come bundled with an ergonomic stand and a light-shielding hood that is lightweight and attaches to the monitor magnetically without needing to connect separate parts.

EIZO ColorEdge CG2799S and CG2700X additional features

  • Smooth gradations with a 10-bit simultaneous display from a 16-bit LUT (A graphics board and software which support 10-bit output are necessary for a 10-bit display).
  • Screen uniformity with patented digital uniformity equalizer (DUE) technology
  • Nearest Neighbor interpolation function for video upscaling (CG2700X)
  • DCI 4K cropping function for displaying DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) content (CG2700X)
  • Ergonomic stand with height (155 mm), tilt (35° up, 5° down), swivel (344°), and pivot (90°) adjustment
  • 5-year manufacturer’s warranty (Usage time is limited to 30,000 hours)

Price and availability
