LiteGear Auroris Released – Large Overhead Light Source in Sleek Design

LiteGear recently released Auroris, a large area light source with a slim profile of only 2.5cm/1”. The light comes in two versions: Auroris X features 24 large pixels and covers an area of 9m²/100ft², while Auroris V is half the size. Auroris X is now available for pre-order for $25,990.

The larger the source relative to the subject, the softer the quality of light. We all know this basic technical concept and lighting equipment company LiteGear is taking it seriously.

In fact, in a recent launch event, the manufacturer introduced two new huge overhead light sources that measure up to 3x3m/10x10ft. These lights are usually used in large studios to evenly light big subjects, such as cars, and I’m sure the new LiteGear Auroris X and Auroris V will find a new home in soundstages around the world. Let’s take a look.

LiteGear Auroris X and Auroris V: sleek design

These overhead light sources consist of a matrix of large-format pixels and come in two different sizes. Auroris X measures 3x3m/10x10ft and it features 24 sub-areas, thus covering a total surface of 9m²/100ft². However, the company also offers a half-size version, the Auroris V, that is 1.5x3m/5x10ft in size.

One of the biggest selling points of this light is its low-profile design. Indeed, this light source is 2.5cm/1” thin and only weighs 51.7kg/114 lbs (Auroris X). But that’s not it. In fact, the whole system is foldable into a 53x53x81cm/21x21x32” cube (Auroris X) for easier transportation. A much more compact solution than an array of ARRI SkyPanels!

Furthermore, these Auroris lights seem to offer great advantages in terms of setup time. According to LiteGear, the whole system can be deployed and rigged by two people in less than 20 minutes and it only takes a few minutes to disassemble it. The lights feature a system of heavy-duty webbing and locking buckles for easy overhead rigging.

Wide gamut, color temperature, and photometrics

The Auroris X and Auroris V are full-color light sources. They are equipped with LiteGear’s Spectrum color technology which should provide a wide-gamut output. Moreover, their color temperature spectrum ranges from 2.000 to 11.000K with magenta/green adjustments.

The intensity of the source is completely dimmable from 0 to 100%. If you are interested in the full photometric measurements of Auroris, I suggest taking a look at this datasheet.

LiteGear Auroris: accessory ecosystem

Along with the Auroris X and Auroris V, the company also introduced a vast set of accessories, starting from the dedicated LiteDimmer Spectrum AC600 that enables full control of the pixel matrix.

The dimmer provides power to 12 pixels simultaneously. It features 2 Ethernet, PDX out, 5-pin DMX in/through, 28-pin out, and power in/through ports. Moreover, it can be updated with new functions in the future via its USB-A port.
