SUMOLIGHT SUMOLASER Unveiled – Powerful, Razor-sharp Light Beams

SUMOLIGHT has recently announced another modular, high-output fixture, the SUMOLASER. This new model consists of multiple daylight-balanced spotlights working together to project a powerful light beam in the distance. The lighting system supports DMX control and is IP65 rated.

German manufacturer SUMOLIGHT is popular for producing lighting systems that stand out for their modular and unconventional design. In the past, we reported about their SUMOSKY expandable LED wall and SUMOMAX hexagonal fixture.

Now, the company is back with another eccentric product release. Their new SUMOLASER is here to battle against 18kW HMI fixtures and reclaim its spot in the filmmaking and entertainment industry. Let’s take a closer look.

SUMOLIGHT SUMOLASER: powerful light beams

The new SUMOLIGHT SUMOLASER is a lighting module consisting of multiple point-like sources with a color temperature of 6000K. Each fixture inherits the benefits of a new type of laser emitters, produces a razor-sharp 3° beam angle, and is individually controllable via DMX.

The design of the SUMOLASER emulates that of its SUMOMAX sibling. Indeed, it arranges 7 single sources into a hexagonal–shaped structure with a front face of 194mm/7.65”. According to the company, this configuration can output 150,000 lux at a distance of 100m, which is quite considerable!

Size, weight, and design

The SUMOLIGHT SUMOLASER is relatively lightweight considering its size. Indeed, the laser module measures 204x194x192mm/8.03×7.65×7.56″ and weighs 10.8lbs/4.9kg. However, in addition to this volume, you also need to factor in the yoke mount, control box, spigot, and 7-engine module, that measure 480x290x320mm/18.9×11.42×12.6″ when put together.

The design is scalable, meaning that users can arrange multiple modules into larger arrays by relying on the company’s SUMOSNAP quick-release technology, which also serves as an interface to truss systems and junior pins. Moreover, the SUMOLASER is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications, being IP65 rated.

Price and availability

There’s currently no official information about the price and availability of the new SUMOLIGHT SUMOLASER. However, if you’re attending Cine Gear Expo in Los Angeles from June 9th to 11th, you can stop by the SUMOLIGHT booth (n.930) for a sneak peek of this new fixture.
