Renderro – Let’s Talk Cloud-Based Editing and Updates

For many creatives, the desktop computer is the most essential device for their day-to-day work. But what if that computer is too slow for the task at hand? Renderro, a cloud-based workspace, could be of assistance, as this service provides you with a powerful cloud computer on the go. Just add a decent Internet connection, and you’re good to go.

Renderro has been around for almost 2 years now, and since its launch, the service has evolved over time. We took the opportunity to talk to CEO and founder Pitor Chomczyk to have him explain what’s new at Renderro.

Basically, three important things have been added: 1) the ability to perform online transcoding of your media files. 2) A new feature called Teams has been added, which allows a group of users to access the same (cloud) computer and all files associated with the project at hand. 3) A new pricing tier has been added: The so-called Pro plan offers you a “flat rate” per month, so you know exactly what you can expect to pay.

Renderro cloud-based workplace

Having a super powerful computer available “in the cloud” seems like a very interesting concept, especially if you don’t need such a machine every day. When a project requires a bit more performance, just push it into Renderro and work on it with a powerful cloud computing instance to finish it in no time. You don’t need a particularly powerful computer to work with Renderro, your laptop just becomes a remote control for the actual workhorse machine that lives in the cloud.

One thing to remember: Although you can connect from any device (Mac, Windows, Linux, even tablets), the cloud infrastructure runs on Microsoft Windows, so you can use any application which is designed to run on that operating system.

Renderro Teams

With the added features, especially the new Teams option, Renderro is not just a computer in the cloud, but a full-fledged collaboration platform. Imagine you and your team sitting in the same office, each with access to the same NAS (Network Attached Storage) for real-time collaboration.

Except that each team member may be on a different continent. Renderro connects all the team members and all the files they need.

Online transcoding

With online transcoding in Renderro, you can transcode any video media to any format and resolution, optionally even with a watermark. This can all be done from the administration panel of Renderro, without any additional software or configuration. This way you can easily share videos with collaborators and clients.

With the ability to transcode files directly on the cloud machine, there is no longer a need to upload different versions of the same file; instead, transcoding is done directly in the cloud to streamline your workflow.

New pricing

The usual way users are billed for cloud services is per hour or per minute billing. This is a fair deal but leaves out a lot of uncertainty as to the final price and if you are running a successful business, you want to have at least a good estimate of the cost. For example, render farms that have a minute billing seem like a great deal until it comes to software errors, file corruption, and versioning. Then it turns out, that you have to spend extra time (=$) to finish your rendering.

Different tiers to choose from. Image credit: Renderro

Renderro wants to fight this by introducing a new Pro plan: a single subscription for a certain amount of hours of monthly cloud computer usage and cloud storage subscription. Piotr and the team have estimated that this tier will be more than enough for most professionals to finish and deliver their projects with Renderro.

Also new is the even higher-up tier called Studio, which adds a second cloud computer and a bunch of other benefits such as more cloud storage, head over to their website for all the details.
