Nextorage B1 Pro and B1 SE CFexpress Type B Cards Introduced – Fast New Memory Cards

During Inter BEE 2022, Nextorage introduced new very fast CFexpress Type B memory cards: the B1 Pro and the B1 SE series. The B1 Pro can reach maximum read speeds of up to 1,950 MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,900 MB/s. Furthermore, these cards are VPG400 rated and available in various capacities from 165GB to 1,3330GB. So let’s take a closer look at these memory cards!

Nextorage is a Japanese manufacturer of storage solutions and media storage solutions. The company previously partnered with Atomos to create AtomX SSDminis with 500GB and 1TB capacities.

The company is now back with two CFexpress Type B memory card lineups: the Nextorage B1 Pro and B1 SE series.

Common features

While the Nextorage B1 Pro is aimed at filmmakers, the B1 SE is more for photographers, but both cards have some features in common, including:

• Temperature resistance from -10 ℃ to 70 ℃ / 14 ℉ to 158 ℉
• Shock resistance (EIA-364-27A compliant), X-ray and UV resistance (ISO7816-1 compliant), and Magnetic resistance
• Anti-Static (certified to IEC 61000-4-2 standard)
• Both cards support the PCIe 3.0 NVMe 1.4 interface

Also, Nextorage told us that both cards are compatible with various cameras, including the Canon EOS R3/R5/R5C and Nikon Z9. The company is testing the compatibility with other models and will update this list on its website.

Nextorage B1 Pro series features

The Nextorage B1 Pro series is designed mainly for filmmakers and is available in four capacities: 165GB, 330GB, 660GB, and 1330GB.

The Nextorage B1 Pro CFexpress Type B cards can reach read speeds of up to 1,950MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,900MB/s. Furthermore, it supports VPG400 standards with a minimum sustained write speed of 1,800MB/s.

The B1 Pro series CFexpress Type B card is equipped with a “Dynamic Auto Power Save” system. Nextorage developed this system for low-power consumption during video recording. Nextorage claims that the B1 Pro series offers up to 68 % power savings compared to non-equipped pSLC CFexpress cards.

If a memory card drains less energy, it also means that its temperature is reduced, meaning that it can help with thermal throttling and camera overheating. If you’re shooting with a Canon EOS R5, for example, that’s something that could be interesting to you.

Nextorage B1 SE series features

The Nextorage B1 SE has two versions, 128GB and 256GB. This CFexpress Type B memory card lineup is more for photographers than filmmakers, as it has slower write speeds.

The B1 SE has similar 1,950MB/s read speeds as the B1 Pro but a write speed of “only” 1,100MB/s. However, these figures are only for the 256GB model, as the 128GB version has maximum read speeds of up to 1,400MB/s and write speeds of up to 550MB/s.

Price and availability

Both cards should be available on late December 2022. The B1 Pro starts at $199.99 for 165GB, the 330GB model is $399.99, the 660GB version is $799.99, and the top-of-the-line 1330GB version is $1599.99. The B1 SE is more affordable, starting at $99.99 for the 128GB model and $139.99 for the 256GB version.
