The newly announced SIGMA 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports Lens is the latest telephoto lens in SIGMA’s sports line. It is claimed to be the most versatile, fast-action mirrorless lens for professional photographers. The lens boasts an impressive zoom range, and according to the manufacturer excellent optical performance, fast and precise autofocus, and an advanced optical stabilizer algorithm. Let’s take a closer look at what this lens can do!
Not to be confused with the SIGMA 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports Lens, which is designed for SLR lenses in EF, F, and SA mounts, the SIGMA 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports Lens is designed specifically for mirrorless lenses with E and L mounts.
As the name suggests, the SIGMA 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports Lens is designed with sport and wildlife photographers in mind. It’s designed to be a high-quality, high-performance lens that can deliver portrait shots quickly from a distance.
The 60-600mm range of this lens offers a 10x optical zoom with full-frame sensor coverage on a mirrorless camera. SIGMA claims this to be the first 10x optical zoom natively available for mirrorless cameras. It is also fully compatible with the SIGMA TELE CONVERTER TC-1411 (1.4x) and TC-2011 (2.0x). This allows the lens to reach focal lengths of up to 1200mm!

Furthermore, the Dual Action Zoom design allows the lens to zoom by rotating the barrel or simply pulling the front of the lens forward.
High-response Linear Actuator (HLA)

New to the SIGMA 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports Lens is the motor high-response linear actuator (HLA). This auto-focus motor delivers fast, precise, and quiet AF performance throughout the range of the lens.

The HLA also offers high focus following performance for sports photography and other subjects in motion such as cars, planes, or birds in flight, ensuring that the decisive moment is not missed.
Newly developed “OS2” Optical Stabilizer algorithm

The lens optical stabilizer features a newly developed algorithm to improve performance. It provides 7 stops of image stabilization at 60mm and 6 stops at 600mm. According to the company, this is ideal for handheld shooting in lower light conditions, and while tracking fast-moving objects.
Optical design and build

The SIGMA 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports Lens features 2 FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) and 3 SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements in the optical design. These help to reduce fringing and distortions throughout the zoom range.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating on the lens elements helps to minimize flaring and produces a more contrasty, color-neutral image. The front element of the lens also features a water and oil-repellent coating to help keep it clear of containments.
Made specifically for wildlife, sports, and action photography, the body of the lens was designed with durability in mind.

Its multi-material structure combines magnesium alloy, TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), and carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. These materials keep the body lightweight and robust while the dust and splash-resistant gaskets fortify the case structure and expand its use to different environments.
