SmallHD announced a monitor kit to control and monitor the RED KOMODO and V-RAPTOR cameras: the SmallHD Indie 5 monitor is now available as a kit for $1.799. So let’s take a closer look at this setup!

The small and lightweight Indie 5 Monitor Kit from SmallHD can be used to provide professional monitoring for your KOMODO or V-RAPTOR camera with the 5″ display, suitable for indoor or outdoor use. The monitor supports up to UHD 4K30 HDMI input/output as well as up to 1080p60 via the SDI input/output.

The RED control software loads onto the monitor and allows you to control RED camera functions via the RCP2 protocol such as run/stop, color and exposure controls, status, color temperature, video format, playback, shutter, menu control, and more – all via the Indie 5 touchscreen. The control cable and micro-USB-to-LEMO adapter allow the monitor to connect to the camera. You can also utilize optional RED camera control via the monitor’s micro-USB port.

The monitor kit includes the Indie 5 monitor, a micro-USB to 5-pin control cable, a cable adapter, a microfiber cleaning cloth, and the RED KOMODO/DSMC3 RCP2 camera control software upgrade.

SmallHD Smart 5 series – overview

If you are unfamiliar with the SmallHD Smart 5 series, it consists of three 5-inch LCD touchscreen displays, all sharing the same 1080p resolution, 4:2:2 10-bit color depth, and Rec. 709 color processing. These common features are packed into an anodized aluminum chassis, which also offers a few mounting points for accessories. All monitors have dual 3G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 (4K UHD 30p) input/outputs, and support signal cross-conversion.

The Indie 5 monitor has a brightness of 1000 nits, a dual built-in NP-F battery plate, simple barrel power input, micro USB, and a touchscreen-only interface. For further information please check our IBC 2022 coverage here or watch the video below.
