FEELWORLD L7 Released – 7″ 2200-nit HDMI Monitor with Metal Housing

FEELWORLD has just released the L7, a budget-friendly 7” on-camera monitor. This HDMI-only model has a 1920×1080 IPS panel with a maximum brightness of 2200 nits, supports 4K signals up to 30fps, can store up to 50 custom LUTs and features rugged aluminum construction.

Chinese manufacturer FEELWORLD is mainly known for making accessible on-camera monitors, although the company’s offering also extends to wireless video systems, lighting products, PTZ cameras, and more.

However, my biggest complaint with most of their field monitors is their plastic housing. I tried their LUT7S and, while it does the job, it feels pretty easy to damage while running-and-gunning on set. But with the new L7, it looks like the company is now slowly switching to a more rugged design. Let’s take a closer look!

FEELWORLD L7 – features

The FEELWORLD L7 is actually built on the legacy of the existing LUT7. The two monitors feature very similar specs, but while the LUT7 is built of plastic, the new L7 finally sports an aluminum housing that should make it much more reliable without affecting weight.

Just like the LUT7, the L7 features a 7-inch touchscreen IPS panel with a resolution of 1920×1080. The screen has a maximum brightness of 2200 nits, which easily makes the monitor daylight-viewable, an angle of view of 160° and a contrast ratio of 1200:1.

The L7 is an HDMI-only monitor with a single input and output, both supporting signals up to UHD 4K30p. What’s interesting is that the back of the monitor features SDI IN/OUT labels, even though the device lacks SDI connectors. So my guess is that a metal edition of the LUT7S is also planned.

The monitor offers an extensive set of monitoring tools, including: waveform, RGB parade, vector scope, RGB histogram, histogram, embedded audio, focus peaking, zoom, zebra, false color, safe frames and anamorphic de-squeeze. Moreover, up to 50 custom LUTs can be loaded into the monitor, which already comes with built-in Log-to-Rec.709 LUTs for some of the most common camera models.

Power, control and design

The back of the device features a dual Sony NP-F style battery slot, but the monitor can also be powered externally via its 12V DC power connector. A DC power output (8.4V) is also available to provide power for additional accessories, such as a wireless video system, for example.

Along with touchscreen control, users can also use the selection wheel and custom function buttons placed on the top side. Finally, three 1/4”-20 threaded holes at the bottom, left and right side of the housing allows users to easily attach the screen to their camera rig.

Price and availability

The new FEELWORLD L7 is now available to purchase from the manufacturer’s website as well as pre-order from B&H. In the box you will find the monitor, a mini hot-shoe mount adapter, an Allen wrench key and a Micro HDMI cable. Its official retail price is set at $289.99, making it about $40 more expensive than the LUT7 (plastic construction).
