SIMMOD LENS PL Cine Pro Lens Adapters for Popular Mirrorless Mounts Announced

Simmod Lens have released a new lineup of PL Cine Pro lens adapters for different mirrorless mounts. The adapters are available for E-mount, L-mount, RF-mount, FUJIFILM X-mount, and selected M4/3-mount cameras, and can be ordered directly from Simmond Lens’ online shop for $189 each. If you are not familiar with this manufacturer, Simmod Lens was founded by cinematographer Ron Sim and is based in Canada. They offer Cine Conversion kits, adapters, follow focus gear, accessories, and tools for a wide range of vintage and photography lenses.

For example, Simmod Lens recently launched an interesting Cine Conversion kit for the Canon FD 85mm F1.2 L that turns it into an EF-mount lens.

The Simmod Lens PL Cine Pro lens adapters might be a nice and efficient option, as they come in a series of five different PL lens mount adapters, allowing you to mount nearly every PL mount lens to a Canon RF, Sony E, Panasonic L, or FUJIFILM X or selected M4/3 cameras.

Evidently, internal light reflections are always a problem with adapters and you could get a more milky black color as a result. Simmod Lens uses a felt material that flocks the inside to ensure optical quality by minimizing internal reflections. Additionally, all adapters have an Arca-type tripod foot with 1/4” 20-hole mounting for use with heavier lenses.

However, the M4/3 CINE PRO ADAPTER adapter works only with selected PL lenses due to the mechanical constraints of the PL and MFT mount. The adapter will only work on the following MFT (Micro-4/3) mirrorless cameras below.

Shims adjustment capabilities

Certainly, the biggest advantage of the Simmod Lens PL Cine Pro lens adapters are the included shim rings. Other manufacturers, such as DZOFILM’s Octopus lens adapters are also available for PL lenses to RF–, E–, X–, L–, and DX – mounts in a similar price range, but they don’t provide any additional shims.

Shims are thin rings of metal used to adjust mount depth to ensure perfect infinity focus and enhance the accuracy of focus marks, correspondingly when shims are added, they position the lens slightly further forward and shift where the focus lies. This back focus adjustment with the thin shim rings is essential to compensate for errors caused by different tolerances between lens, adapter, and camera body.

All Simmod Lens Cine Pro PL adapters can be shimmed from the rear body end, instead of via the front. Obviously, this makes it much easier for users to access and adjust with simple tools. Each adapter comes with a pair of brass shims included. Additional brass shims can be purchased via the Simmod Lens website in 0.3mm, 0.5mm, and 1.0 mm thicknesses.

Locking dust cover included

Because the original camera body cap can’t attach to the PL lens adapter, a removable locking dust cover is provided. It allows you to disconnect your PL lens, leave the adapter mounted to your camera, and keep your camera’s sensor protected.
