Dedolight Optical Accessories for Prolycht Orion 675 FS and 300 FS Spotlights Announced

New dedolight optical accessories for Prolycht Orion 675 FS and 300 FS have been announced. The DP 400 projector, zoom and parallel beam adapter, wide-angle adapter, as well as Bowens S adapters for existing dedolight optics, should be available by the end of March.

We were at the NAB last year when Prolycht announced its new powerful spotlight – the Orion 675 FS. Not long after, we caught our first glimpse of the outcome of the new collaboration between Prolycht and dedolight at the Cine Gear Expo – the small 80W RGBACL spotlight called dedolight NEO Color. Recently, both companies announced further new products stemming from this cooperation – new dedolight optical accessories for Prolycht Orion 675 FS and 300 FS spotlights. Let’s look at the details.

Both Prolycht Orion 675 FS and 300 FS spotlights use a Bowens S front accessory mount, and while Prolycht already offers its own modifiers, dedolight announced that dedicated optics for spreading and narrowing the light beams, plus a new optimized version of the dedolight DP400 projection system will be available for Prolycht Orion spotlights. In addition, owners of some current dedolight DP400 optics can purchase adapters to use them on the Orion lights.

DP 400 projector

As dedolight puts it, the DP400 projection system features sharp and contrasty optics with an even transmission from center to edge with minimum color fringing. For the Prolycht Orion lights, there are three lenses available in the system:

• 100mm (beam angle of 34.4°)
• 150mm (beam angle of 21°)
• 185mm (beam angle of 17°)

There are two projector assemblies, one with wide-angle optics for use with the 100mm lens (DP400KU-WA100-P), and the other optimized for the longer 150mm (DP400KU150-P) and 185mm (DP400KU185-P) lenses.

Prolycht will sell the projectors in kits, which include a lens, an A-sized gobo holder, and all the necessary intermediate mounting parts for use on a Prolycht Orion light. As the 150mm and 185mm lenses use the same projector systems, those individual lenses can be purchased to complement a projector kit. There are also 4-way framing shutters and adjustable irises available for the projectors.

Zoom and Parallel Beam Adapter

The DZOOM-P is a large 5x zoom lens designed to transmit an intense beam across a small area—suitable for reflecting off Lightstream or Lightbridge panels or pushing into diffusion frames. On the Orion 300 FS, the beam angle of the DZOOM-P is 8.5-36° and can reach 81,000 lux (2m@5600K). On the Orion 675 FS, the beam range is 6.9-33° and can reach up to 99,000 lux (2m@5600K).

The DPBA-14-P Parallel Beam Adapter is a compact and lightweight solution, offering a 17° beam on the Orion 300 FS with 40,500 lux (2m@5600K), and a 14° beam on the Orion 675 FS with 60,500 lux (2m@5600K). Both the DZOOM-P and the DPBA-14-P have removable honeycomb accessory fronts available to block light spill.

Wide-angle adapter

The DL400WAR-P is a wide-angle lens that expands the native beam of the Orion 300 FS to 80° wide with even coverage – matching the native beam angle of the Orion 675 FS. It includes 4-way barn doors with dedolight’s multi-axis pivoting hinges. For owners of existing dedolight DLWA400R wide-angle adapters, the rear adapter mount DLWAR400-AP is available to convert for use with the Prolycht Orion 300 FS.

Price and availability

According to both companies, all the dedolight optics compatible with Prolycht Orion spotlights will ship by the end of March. According to dedolight’s website, the pricing is as follows: the DP 400 will set you back around $1,450 depending on the version and the wide-angle adapter costs $888. The DZOOM-P unit can be preordered for $2,375, and the DPBA-14-P Parallel Beam Adapter starts at $1,326. The adapters for existing dedolight optics range between $200 and $300.

Since Prolycht Orion lights use a Bowens mount, it leads me to believe that theoretically, any spotlight with a Bowens mount could potentially leverage some of the dedolight optics to some extent, at least for now. Do you see it the same way?
