Atomos AtomX CAST Desktop App Launched with AI-driven Camera Matching Tool

Atomos AtomX CAST Desktop App Launched with AI-driven Camera Matching Tool

Atomos recently launched a free desktop companion app for its AtomX CAST multi-camera and live streaming device, now available for Mac and Windows users. This desktop app mirrors all the settings of your AtomX CAST but also features a new Color page powered by Atomos’ AI to easily match different cameras together by generating LUTs. So let’s take a closer look at it!

The Atomos AtomX CAST is an add-on multi-camera and live-streaming module for the Ninja V/V+ monitors/recorders launched in June 2021. In a nutshell, the AtomX CAST connects at the bottom of your Ninja V/V+. It gives you four additional HDMI inputs, an HDMI program output, and a couple of control buttons to switch cameras and activate functions such as picture-in-picture, for example. If you want to learn more about it, you can watch our in-depth review of the AtomX CAST here.

While the AtomX CAST is an excellent addition to the Ninja V/V+, you’re still stuck with the monitor/recorder’s 5-inch display to switch cameras. This can be a little uncomfortable if you’re working on a live show for hours or even to see fine details in your scene. Of course, you can always plug the Program output into a larger screen, which means bringing an extra monitor on set. To simplify the process, Atomos recently released the AtomX CAST Desktop App that unlocks new features and allows you to use your laptop display as a production monitor.

Atomos AtomX CAST Desktop App – features

First, for the new AtomX CAST Desktop App to work with your Ninja V/V+ and your Windows/Mac computer, you must update your monitor/recorder to the latest AtomOS 10.93.00 firmware. Next, you’ll need to connect the AtomX CAST USB-C output to your computer.

The AtomX CAST Desktop App is divided into five pages: Switcher / Input / Output / Overlays / Color. The Switcher page mirrors all of your CAST’s functions, so you can switch cameras, select your audio input source, set the PiP size and position, select your transition, and so on. What is nice is that all the changes in the app also apply to the CAST and vice-versa.

The Input / Output / Overlays pages are pretty much self-explanatory. However, the AI-powered Color page is exciting. Indeed, this page promises to allow you to match different cameras together easily. All you have to do is select a reference point in the scene, and the software will analyze the brightness and differences in colors between the cameras to generate LUTs. Then, the LUTs are loaded into the CAST, and voilà!
