MotoCrane Revolt Introduced – A Comprehensive Power Solution for DJI Ronin 2

In the dynamic landscape of filmmaking technology, MotoCrane has made a significant stride with the introduction of the Revolt. This comprehensive power solution, advertised as the world’s first TB50 to 3-Pin XLR Smart Adapter, promises to revolutionize how filmmakers power the DJI Ronin 2. Let’s take a look!

The Revolt is a smart, plug-and-play device that functions akin to a TB50 battery, ensuring seamless operation. It is inserted into the battery sled, and once connected to the power source it is ready to start shooting. An onboard logic processor manages the “digital handshake” required for maintaining power without errors, making MotoCrane’s Revolt a reliable power solution.

Powering the MotoCrane Revolt

The Revolt natively accepts 3-pin XLR (24V) power, but its versatility is truly showcased through the two converter options available. The DC-3 converter can convert common DC voltages such as 12V, 36V, and 48V to compatible 3-pin XLR. This is particularly valuable for automotive applications where the DC-3 can be hard-wired to the vehicle’s own 12V battery, providing a continuous power source during shoots.

The MotoCrane’s AC-3 converter, on the other hand, can convert 100-240V AC wall/house/shore power to 3-pin XLR. This is especially beneficial for cranes/jibs where the base is stationary and typically supplied with power. The AC-3 converter ensures that your DJI Ronin 2 remains powered, regardless of the duration of the shoot.

External battery power for the MotoCrane Revolt

In addition to the DC-3 and AC-3 converters, the Revolt can also be powered by Anton Bauer’s CINE VCLX, which provides 28V through a native 3-pin XLR. This high-capacity battery is known for its reliability and longevity, making it an excellent power source for long shooting days.

Hot swapping capability

One of the standout features of the MotoCrane Revolt is its ability to facilitate hot swapping. When swapping the CINE VCLX, the Revolt keeps the DJI Ronin 2 powered, ensuring that there is no interruption to the operation of the gimbal. This feature is a game-changer for filmmakers, allowing for continuous shooting without the need to power down the equipment.

Summary

The Revolt by MotoCrane seems to be a product that offers filmmakers a versatile power solution for their DJI Ronin 2. Its smart design, ease of use, and compatibility with various power sources make it a product to be considered for any filmmaker looking to enhance their shooting capabilities. Of course, the Revolt, with its cables and the weight of the DJI Ronin 2, may not be the ideal solution for handheld operation. Instead, we envision a user scenario with the Revolt mounted on a crane, jib, or rig, where the powering solution truly plays to its strengths, unleashing its full potential in a setting that demands precision and reliability.

Price and availability

The Revolt MotoCrane is available for pre-order for $795. The Pro Bundle is available right now for $2,498.
