Laowa Announces Nanomorph 65mm T2.4, 80mm T2.4 1.5X Anamorphic Lens, and 1.33X Front Anamorphic Adapter

Laowa has announced two new Nanomorph anamorphic lenses in 65mm and 80mm focal lengths alongside a 1.33x front anamorphic adapter. These lenses pair with the existing 27mm, 35mm, and 50mm Nanomorph lenses, which are very compact and handy. The new offerings are part of an Indiegogo campaign beginning on August 29th. Let’s see what they’re all about.

Affordable anamorphic lenses have exploded on the marketplace over the last several years. With brands like SIRUI and Vazen initially leading the charge, the options for indie filmmakers who want to utilize anamorphic lenses for their films are growing.

Laowa first announced their 27mm, 35mm, and 50mm 1.5X Nanomorph anamorphic lenses back in April of 2022. These lenses work with 16:9 S35 sensors and produce an image aspect ratio of 2.66:1.

Aside from their compact size and light weight, what sets these Nanomorph lenses apart is their flare options. Laowa makes these lenses for shooters who want flare and an intentional anamorphic distortion look. When purchasing, users can choose between amber, blue, and neutral lens flare.

The teaser video also shows an image of the 65mm Nanomorph with a PL mount. The previous releases are also available in PL/EF mounts for an additional cost.

The new additions maintain the constant 1.5X squeeze ratio across all focus distances and are incredibly compact for handheld and gimbal work.

Lens specs have yet to be released; however, the currently available Nanomorph lenses are tiny and lightweight.

Laowa is announcing a 1.33X Front Anamorphic adapter in addition to the new lenses. Details are still to be released regarding the thread size and what lenses it can work with. However, Laowa states it can turn a 1.5x Nanomorph into a 2X anamorphic lens! The company also mentions that it will work with other spherical lenses to get the cinematic look.
