Core SWX Nano-C98X and Nano-U98X for Canon and Sony Cameras Explained

September 15th, 2023 Jump to Comment Section 2

On the show floor at IBC 2023, my colleague Nino quickly stopped by Core SWX’s booth to check out their new Nano-C98X and Nano-U98X batteries. These 98Wh batteries can respectively power select Canon and Sony camcorders, while also providing a D-Tap as well as a USB-C port for powering accessories.

Last time we interviewed the guys from Core SWX was back at NAB 2023, when the company introduced its massive Renegade block battery series. This time, Dorian Backus showed us a much smaller, but no less useful line of batteries – their new Nano-C98X and Nano-U98X. Let’s take a quick look!

Core SWX Nano-C98X and Nano-U98X – features

The Nano-C98X and Nano-U98X are respectively a BPA and BPU-style battery. This means that they are compatible with popular Canon and Sony camera models, such as the Canon EOS C70 or Sony FX6, for example.

Both models have a capacity of 98Wh (14.8V, 6600mAh) and feature an unregulated D-Tap port. Unlike the existing Nano-C98 and Nano-U98 “non X” models, they lack a USB-A port that is now replaced by a USB-C output with support for Power Delivery (45W). The two power outputs can be used to power accessories – such as an external monitor, a wireless follow-focus motor, or a small light – and also work simultaneously.

According to Dorian, the battery can be fully charged in about 2 hours using the USB-C PD port. Moreover, a 4-stage power gauge is there to inform users of the remaining charge.

Price and availability

The new Core SWX Nano-C98X and Nano-U98X are now available to pre-order from CVP and should start shipping in about 10 days. They both retail for $289.
