Blind Spot Gear Launches LumiCard on Kickstarter – a Pocket-Sized Light

LumiCard aims to provide a high-quality LED light source in your pocket. Blind Spot Gear returns to Kickstarter with a credit card-sized LED light that can be powered from your phone. The LumiCard is rated at TLCI > 95 for color accuracy and is weather-resistant. Let’s have a look!

Blind Spot Gear introduced a new mini LED light panel on Kickstarter, and they have already reached their goal. The LED panel comes with MagSafe and USB-C connections. This makes it compatible with a vast array of phones. As with every light source, shooters worry about color accuracy, but in this case, the LEDs should be more color-accurate than many other small LEDs due to the LumiCard’s TLCI score of greater than 95.

LumiCard’s accessories

The LumiRing, LumiDiff, and LumiBank are the key accessories offered with the LumiCard. The LumiRing provides a way to mount the LumiCard on the lip of your laptop, the LumiDiff softens the light for a more flattering look, and the LumiBank is a portable MagSafe battery with a 5,000 mAh capacity.

The LumiCard fits into a pocket or wallet. Spontaneous shots often suffer from inadequate lighting. LumiCard seeks to answer this challenge by providing a small enough light source to light up your subject when the conditions are less than ideal.

Blind Spot Gear produces other small, high-quality lighting solutions used on the set of Netflix productions. The LumiCard is rated for an output of 500 lumens at 5600K. With an IP67 rating and a waterproof design, the LumiCard should tolerate dusty and wet conditions.

One thing I appreciated about the marketing images from Blind Spot Gear is their recognition that a light really should typically be off to the side of a subject to look good. An on-camera flash often gives an unflattering look. Therefore, Blind Spot has demonstrated a few ways to rig a light off to the side. One interesting configuration shows a light on the camera with a second one powered via USB-C. You could do a key and fill light with this configuration without using any external batteries.

The LumiCard is now available to preorder on Kickstarter for $49, which is a 33% saving off the regular retail price. The pack includes a LumiCard, a custom USB-C Cable, and a MagSafe Sticker.
