Panasonic LUMIX S5II/S5IIX Firmware Update Announced with Camera to Cloud Integration

Panasonic LUMIX S5II/S5IIX Firmware Update Announced with Camera to Cloud Integration

Panasonic has just announced a new firmware update for their LUMIX S5II (3.0) and S5IIX (2.0). It is packed with new features designed to streamline workflows for shooters. Adobe Camera-to-Cloud integration headlines the release. Proxy recording also arrives on the LUMIX S5II and S5IIX. Panasonic also included improvements to autofocus, image stabilization, and pre-record burst shooting.

In the run-up to NAB 2024, Panasonic has included integrations with Frame.io Camera-to-Cloud. This allows video and stills to be “automatically uploaded, backed up, shared, and worked on jointly via the cloud.” Users can choose between a Wi-Fi or USB connection. Both JPEG and RAW stills are supported, along with Proxy video files.

Proxy video recording comes to the LUMIX S5II and S5IIX

Proxy recording allows the shooter to record a separate, lower-quality version of the main video recording. This can provide an easier workflow for editors and makes uploading to the cloud much easier. A proxy recording is also a nice safety net just in case something catastrophic happens with the main recording.

Other enhancements

Panasonic also included enhancements to the autofocus and stabilization. The S5II and S5IIX also receive a new SH pre-burst mode. This new shooting mode allows you to start shooting in burst mode with the shutter button held halfway down. Once you press it all the way down, it retroactively includes the bursts in the buffer.

Availability

The firmware will be available soon with Panasonic noting, “In line with LUMIX’s continuous commitment to supporting creators, the firmware will be available to download free of charge from the LUMIX Global Customer Support website on 22nd April 2024.”
