RØDE WIRELESS MICRO Released – Pocket-Sized Wireless Mic for Smartphones

RØDE WIRELESS MICRO Released – Pocket-Sized Wireless Mic for Smartphones

RØDE has released a pocket-sized, 2-person wireless microphone, the Wireless Micro, for smartphone users. The receiver connects directly to a phone—no cables required—and there are two clip-on transmitters with built-in microphones for easy setup. Its patent-pending acoustic chamber reduces wind noise for clear sound in outdoor settings, and the system includes RØDE’s GainAssist technology, which automatically adjusts audio levels to ensure balanced recording. Plus, there is up to 21 hours of battery life with the included charging case. That’s quite a package for a mic this size, so let’s have a closer look!

RØDE is a significant player in the audio tech field, known for the Wireless GO™ compact mic system and a broad range of gear that supports filmmakers, broadcasters, and content creators. Recently, we wrote about the All-in-One Video and Audio Production Console, adding another product to their lineup. What is also nice to see in a company like this is their support for the community, as evident in the introduction of their first RØDE Creator of the Year Award, which acknowledged the “next generation of content creators” among those using RØDE products.

Professional sound, minimal hassle

A highlight of the Wireless Micro is that the setup is very fast, easy, and cable-free. The transmitters pair automatically and feature built-in clips, magnetic mounts, and built-in microphones. RØDE claims you only have to connect the receiver to a phone, clip on the transmitters, and start recording. The mic can handle up to 135 dB SPLs and a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range; plus, its omnidirectional pickup pattern captures audio from all directions, which should ensure consistent sound even if the placement isn’t perfect. In addition, RØDE’s GainAssist technology automatically adjusts volume levels in real-time, preventing clipped or quiet recordings and allowing for upload-ready audio without additional editing or audio expertise.

Other options

There are other lightweight solutions with different features designed for smartphones, but all connect somewhat differently compared to the pocket-sized Wireless Micro that connects very quickly directly to your phone. The DJI Mic 2 is larger, but it has a built-in recorder for onboard recording, allowing you to capture audio directly as a backup. Additionally, the Hollyland LARK M1 DUO has some similar features to the Wireless Micro with slightly more range of up to 656.2ft / 200 m line of sight, and it comes at a very decent price of $79. However, it requires an extra cable. As always, it depends on your specific needs and which solution is right for you.

Price and availability

RØDE’s Wireless Micro is available to order now and is priced at $149. Included in the box are 2 x Transmitters, 1 x Receiver (USB-C or Lightning), 1 x Charging Case, 1 x SC22 USB-C to USB-C Cable, 2 x Furry Windshields, and 2 x Magnetic Attachments.
