DJI Mic Mini Microphone Launched - Super Lightweight, 48-Hour Battery Life, and More

DJI has launched the Mic Mini, a super lightweight wireless microphone that weighs just 10 grams. It’s built to be versatile and has a long battery life, reliable transmission, and various wearing options. It works well with different recording setups and is compatible with cameras, smartphones, computers, and tablets, along with DJI’s ecosystem of devices (Osmo Action and Pocket series, for example). The Mic Mini should appeal to creators at all levels, so let’s have a look at the details.

DJI is well known for their drones, but their product line extends far beyond. We’ve covered several of their offerings many times, most recently the versatile DJI Air 3S Allrounder Drone (with our video review), the Goggle N3 (an alternative to the Goggles 3), and the OSMO Action 5 Pro (with a video review too). Today, we’re focusing on the new DJI Mic Mini, a microphone that weighs just 10 grams, less than half of the DJI Mic 2. Because it’s so lightweight, it can be worn on a collar or a thin shirt without causing any pulling. It can be clipped, attached with magnets, or worn on a lanyard.

Mic Mini – features

  • Battery life: An all-in-one charging case holds the receiver and transmitters, and when fully charged, the setup is good to go for 48 hours. A quick 5-minute charge will offer an extra hour when needed. The receiver and transmitter fully charge in approximately 100 and 90 minutes, respectively.
  • Two-level noise canceling technology: Basic mode for quiet, indoor settings, and Strong mode that focuses on vocals by cutting ambient noise in louder environments.
  • Windscreen: Reduces wind noise for cleaner audio capture outdoors.
  • Automatic limiting: Lowers volume if audio input is too high, preventing clipping and distortion.
  • Adjustable gain: Quickly adjust gain using the receiver’s dial – five level options provide precise control over sound input.
  • Automatic power management: The transmitter enters sleep mode when no signal is detected. The Mimo App allows for setting an automatic power-off timer to conserve battery life.

Sound quality

  • Omnidirectional audio recording: Captures sound from all directions.
  • Dual transmitter pairing: The receiver can connect with two transmitters simultaneously, enabling recording from multiple sources.
  • Dual channel recording: Supports Mono and Stereo modes for greater flexibility and control.
  • Transmission Range: Transmits audio up to 400 meters under controlled conditions.
  • Safety Track: The DJI Mimo App offers a backup track recorded at six dB lower than the main track to safeguard against audio issues like clipping.

Wireless recording with OsmoAudio

The DJI Mic Mini is very versatile and connects directly to DJI products like the Osmo Action 5 Pro, Osmo Action 4, or Osmo Pocket 3 without a receiver. It can also connect directly to smartphones via Bluetooth, also without a receiver, so you can use your phone to capture audio recordings with third-party filming apps, according to the company.

In addition, users can connect the DJI Fly app to the DJI Neo drone and the DJI Mic Mini using Bluetooth to record audio and overlay it with their aerial footage. Using the app, propeller noise is eliminated, audio tracks are merged with the footage, and sound should be good even shooting low-altitude vlogs.

Finally, when connected via the Camera Audio Cable (3.5mm TRS), it syncs power on/off with the camera. With a smartphone, it enables external playback without unplugging and can be charged from the phone. The receiver also supports simultaneous charging of both the smartphone and itself when connected to a power source via USB-C.
