Media 100 NLE Suite For Mac Is Now Free

Media 100 Suite for MacOS is now available for free, offering up a flexible editing platform that can handle 4K and ProRes. It is also now bundled with Boris RED for creative title and transition effects.

Professional and free editing software is hard to come by, so with Media 100 offering up its NLE with a plethora of pro features is great for both producers starting out and wanting to step up their editing game, all the way up to industry productions. Available on MacOS Sierra as well as older MacOS X versions, Media 100 has focused on making the suite an easy to learn and use option, which will appeal to a wide audience of users.

Media 100 version 2.1.8 is capable of handling a number of video formats and codecs, up to 4K resolution and 60p, and Quicktime codecs like ProRes, MJPEG B and even R3D. This flexibility on a free editing platform for Mac users is diverse and applicable to a variety of workflows from prosumers up to professional broadcast productions. • Apple ProRes (422, LT/HQ, 4444 flavours among others).
• REDCODE R3D
• AVC-Intra
• DVCPro flavors
• MJPEG B
• Sony XDCAM (using Sony XDCAM Transfer).

The software is also capable of working with I/O capture cards from AJA and Blackmagic, so the ingest of pre-recorded footage and live video is possible too.

Creating effects, transitions and titles is also possible without exiting Media 100, as the Boris RED effects package is also included in the free software. It’s again user-friendly for customizing 3D text and transitions that can be keyframed, and supports .EPS files for integrating custom logos or graphics into the effects. Also included is ‘100 Essential Transitions’ from Eye Scream, which can add another professional touch with ease. For further finishing or applying effects, timelines can be exported to Adobe After Effects too.
