About Us
CineD is committed to bringing you the latest filmmaking technology news, reviews and analysis. As a leading independent site about advancements in cinematography, we also cover filmmaking accessories, lighting and audio as well as relevant software. Besides gear news, we provide reviews of new cameras and accessories, extensive lab tests of sensors, how-to posts and videos, behind-the-scenes talks with filmmakers, coverage of international industry trade shows and also sometimes host filmmaking competitions.
CineD is for all filmmakers, from beginners to professionals, and all those interested in new developments and latest technologies. We help you bring your film and video projects to life by showing you the right tools and techniques.
Real Stories, Real Films
We want to see real films with real stories. We want to know how a piece of gear actually performs, in a real working situation. Therefore, we incorporate our tests and reviews into shooting real projects whenever possible. Real shooting situations with real-time constraints, amongst other factors, provide real-life feedback on a piece of gear’s performance. Many of our reviews come as storylines or mini documentaries, as well as hands-on videos. We want to get the whole picture.
History & Site Name
CineD was founded by people who work in the field. Based in Vienna, Austria, CineD was born in 2008 (formerly as cinema5D), as a forum for discussions relating to DSLR cinematography, and the techniques and technologies used by modern cinematographers. In 2012, the original founder Sebastian Woeber teamed up with Nino Leitner and Johnnie Behiri, allowing the site to provide insights and opinions from experienced filmmakers, each with their own shooting style, equipment preference and history of productions. Over time, more professional filmmakers from around the world were brought into the team that enriched the plurality of opinions and skillsets behind the site’s content.
This combined expertise in the industry has allowed CineD to flourish into a highly successful and much-loved outlet of news, advice and reviews for both amateur and professional filmmakers. Since 2018, the site is wholly owned and managed by Nino and Johnnie, and the company behind the site was changed into a limited liability company (“GmbH” under Austrian law) – cinema5D GmbH.
In August 2020, after a lengthy research, design and development process, the site was rebranded and relaunched, resulting in a new look, feel and name, while the company behind it (cinema5D GmbH) as well as the entire team behind it have stayed the same.
In parallel to the international (English) site, CineD exists also in Japanese (since 2016) and Spanish (since 2018) languages and is highly successful in these markets, where English is not as commonplace.
The original name “cinema5D” originated from the back-then revolutionary Canon 5D Mark II and stayed with us for a long time, as it became a globally known and trusted source of information for filmmakers. The name “CineD” stands for Cinematography + Digital, while the components “Cine” + “D” are a little nod towards the good old times.
Nino Leitner and Johnnie Behiri jointly own the cinema5D/CineD brand, and are based in Vienna, Austria, where the headquarters office is situated.
Business Model & Ethics
Creating this constant flow of content, video reviews and news announcements for a qualitative website like this is an incredible amount of work. The time dedicated to filming reviews, hosting interviews, travelling to global trade shows (just to name a few examples) is time taken away from paid camera work.
Our business model is based on traffic, and we run carefully selected, relevant advertising, affiliated buy links concerning mentioned products, and collaborations with companies we trust and recommend. Thanks to our sponsors B&H, CVP and Fujiya Avic (in Japan)- who are leading camera equipment retailers – we are independent from manufacturers when compiling reviews. We will always share our honest, unbiased opinion on cameras and accessories – no holding back!

Johnnie Behiri
Johnnie Behiri is a documentary cameraman/editor/producer/director. He is also a Co-Owner/CEO of CineD and MZed
Nino Leitner
Nino Leitner, AAC is Co-CEO of CineD and MZed. He co-owns CineD (alongside Johnnie Behiri), through his company Nino Film GmbH. Nino is a cinematographer and producer, well-traveled around the world for his productions and filmmaking workshops. He specializes in shooting documentaries and commercials, and at times a narrative piece. Nino is a studied Master of Arts. He lives with his wife and two sons in Vienna, Austria.
Administrative Team:
Jackie Schwarzinger
Jackie is our campaign manager and the go-to person for manufacturers and companies advertising on our site. She also handles social media and graphic design as part of our Marketing team. With a solid background in marketing, advertising, and PR, Jackie has spent seven years running an art blog and managing an online video podcast about Vienna's art scene.
Florian Milz
Florian is the creator of the CineD Databases and works at CineD HQ in Vienna, Austria. His responsibilities include capturing B-Roll and product photos for reviews, occasionally writing reviews himself, coordinating website-related projects and lots more. He used to be a camera assistant for commercials and nature/wildlife documentaries and also worked for a film equipment rental for 8 years before joining CineD.
Slavik Boyechko
Slavik Boyechko is an Emmy award-winning filmmaker and helps manage MZed.com, the educational workshop subscription platform by CineD. He exercises his filmmaking muscles by doing video production in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Jeff Loch
Jeff Loch is a French freelance director, editor and colorist, working mostly on music videos, commercials, and corporate films.
Jakub Han
Jakub Han is a freelance filmmaker based in Vienna. He is interested in new tech and trends in filmmaking and passionate about action sports and short documentaries. Jakub has over 10 years of experience with camera work and post-production.
Francesco Andreola
Francesco Andreola is a Milan-based filmmaker. He currently teaches the Video Technology class at the European Institute of Design (IED) in Milan. He works in the Camera Department as a camera operator and assistant.
Kiyoshi Inoue
Kiyoshi Inoue is our office manager of CineD Japan. He is also a freelance filmmaker, who is shooting the beautiful landscape of Japan in 4K. He was working for Sony in professional camcorder development.
Luciano Orlievsky
Luciano Orlievsky is our CineD in Spanish manager operating from Buenos Aires, Argentina. By being an independent editor he has a strong background in the Television Industry.
Gunther Machu
Fascinated by the new possibilities with small cameras. Passionate shooter who isn't doing this for a living. Cut my teeth on the Panasonic GH series, always looking to keep the gear as small as possible on my travels through the world, where I am telling cinematic stories as a hobby.
Graham Sheldon
Emmy winner, Graham Sheldon, resides in Southern California, where he works as a producer and director of photography. He is a member of the Producers Guild of America and ICG Local 600.
Mascha Deikova
Mascha Deikova is a freelance director and writer based in Salzburg, Austria. She creates concepts for and works on commercials, music videos, corporate films, and documentaries. Mascha’s huge passion lies in exploring all the varieties of cinematic and narrative techniques to tell her stories.
Omri Keren Lapidot
Omri Keren Lapidot started his way long ago, hauling massive SVHS cameras as a young local news assistant. Maybe it was the weight that pushed him towards photography, we'll never know. In recent years he became a content creator, teacher, visual literacy promoter, and above all - a father of (fantastic) four girls. Based in Amsterdam.
Felix Tappeiner
Felix is a freelance videographer based in Vienna, with a passion for visual storytelling and cutting-edge technology. He also creates content for LEWITT Audio, blending his skills in video and audio production. Enthusiastic about cine tech innovations, Felix constantly explores new camera gear and editing techniques
Alexandra Thompson
A camera was put in my hands at 16, and I’ve been taking photographs ever since. Before moving to Vienna, I worked as a photographer on film sets, telling stories as they unfolded behind the scenes. Since then, I’ve focused on immersive theater, both as a photographer and an actor. I am the photographer for the award-winning Nesterval ensemble, documenting the energy and atmosphere of their performances. I’m a teller of stories. Stories hold my interest. I’ll take on any project with a story to tell.
Heath McKnight
Heath has been an independent filmmaker, video director, producer, and editor for over 25 years, and has been writing and lecturing about film and video technology since 2003. In addition to producing and directing several feature and short films, corporate videos, commercials, and more, he has taught filmmaking, video editing, and cinematography. His two most recent short films, 'Nobody's Tomorrow' and 'Hellevator,' were written by comic book legend David Michelinie. Heath enjoys running and triathlons in his free time, and finished a full IRONMAN in 2019.
