Angelbird have released the latest generation of their popular SSD2GO PKT portable solid-state drives, available in 2TB and 4TB capacities. The new drives feature significant performance enhancements over previous models, offering sustained write speeds of up to 1600MB/s and maximum read/write speeds of 1800MB/s. Let’s see what else is new!
The SSD2GO PKT Portable SSDs by Angelbird connect via USB-C 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface, providing transfer rates of up to 20Gb/s when used with compatible hardware. Measuring just 70 × 9.5 × 45.5 mm (2.76 × 0.37 × 1.79 inches) and weighing approximately 50 grams, the SSD2GO PKT maintains the pocket-sized form factor that has defined the series. The drives feature an aluminum exterior and have been designed to withstand extreme temperatures, shock, and overload conditions.

Angelbird SSD2GO PKT – specs
Key features include:
- Stable Stream technology that promises consistent performance across the entire capacity
- A Write-Protect-Switch with LED indicator to prevent accidental file deletion
- Solid Connect design with a recessed USB-C connection port
- An included 32cm (12.6-inch) flexible USB-C 4.0 cable
- Compatibility with macOS, iPadOS, iOS, Windows, Linux, and Android systems
The drives are backward compatible with older USB standards and physically compatible with Thunderbolt 3/4 connections, though Thunderbolt speeds are not supported. Additional technical specifications include overload protection, TRIM support, ECC, EMS protection, SMART monitoring, ESD protection, and built-in temperature sensors.

Practical applications for filmmakers
For filmmakers and content creators, these portable SSDs address several common workflow challenges. The sustained write speed of 1600MB/s should be sufficient for capturing high-resolution video content without frame drops, while the compact size makes them suitable for field work.
The Write-Protect-Switch could prove particularly valuable for production teams, as it provides an additional safeguard against accidental formatting or deletion of footage during busy shoots. Meanwhile, the temperature resistance (operating range of -10°C to 40°C) suggests these drives should function reliably in various environmental conditions.

Where do these drives fit in the market?
Angelbird have established partnerships with industry manufacturers including ARRI, Atomos, and RED, so we are convinced these drives will also be optimized for compatibility with professional cinema equipment. The company designs, engineers, and manufactures its products in-house in Austria, positioning these drives as premium storage solutions.
The SSD2GO PKT comes with a 3-year limited warranty that requires activation within 30 days of purchase. According to Angelbird’s documentation, the company also offers data recovery services, though specific details weren’t provided in the announcement materials.
