Amaran COB S Series LED Lights Introduced

Aputure, a Chinese manufacturer of lighting solutions, just released the new amaran COB S series, with six different bi-color and daylight-balanced options. The budget-friendly COB 60d/x S, COB 100d/x S, and COB 200d/x S can be pre-ordered in a price range between $169 and $349. Let’s take a closer look at this fair-priced LED fixture!

amaran COB S Series

The original COB series was already reviewed by my colleague Graham Sheldon about a year ago, in case you missed it, you can check the COB 60x and COB 60d here. Now the new COB S series received a LED upgrade: each fixture features an all-new dual-blue LED chipset, improving its ability to reproduce the light spectrum and significantly increasing their SSI scores, resulting in better color accuracy.

The re-engineered dual-blue LED chipset, the amaran COB S series utilizes the latest LED technology to output color-accurate light reliably. Daylight-balanced S series fixtures clock in with an SSI (D56) of 86, which is a 19% increase from the original daylight-balanced COB Series fixtures. The bicolor S series fixtures can reach an SSI (D56) of 87, a 17.5% increase over the SSI (D56) score of the original COB series bicolor lights. In addition, the new COB S series bi-color lights can achieve an SSI (Tungsten) of 90.

Power solutions

In addition to each fixture’s included AC power supplies, COB S series lights have the added benefit of compatibility with DC power via battery solutions. For example, for the COB 60d/x S, users can utilize its included Dual NP-F battery plate to power the fixture using NP-F style batteries or use a DTap battery with a DC power cable.

The COB 100d/x S and the COB 200d/x S fixtures can be powered by two Gold or V-Mount batteries via the Aputure 2-Bay battery power station (sold separately) using their 48V DC power inputs. That is exactly what you want as an independent filmmaker, the versatility to run your light fixtures with a common battery solution that might be in your bag already!

Versatile CCT range

The bi-color COB S series fixtures COB 60x, COB 100x, and COB 200x have a versatile CCT range of 2,700K to 6,500K, allowing users to cover different looks from warm to daylight lighting possibilities. As Sidus Link compatible fixtures, the S series bi-color lights are convenient with their ability to change color temperatures on the fly.

The COB S series fixture can be controlled from your smartphone or tablet, from its output with 0%-100% step-less brightness control, color temperature control, and built-in effects, or even save up to 10 custom FX and 10 music FX presets for easy access to different light modes.

Universal Bowens Mount

The amaran COB S Series lights, all have full-size Bowens Mounts for compatibility with many Bowens Mount modifiers such as Aputure’s Light Dome Mini II, Lantern, and Light Box 45×45. Third-party Bowens Mount modifiers are also compatible with S Series lights. In addition to an integrated universal Bowens Mount, all the fixtures can use shoot-through umbrellas with built-in Umbrella Holders in each mounting column.
