Many companies are now offering free or discounted stuff online to help filmmakers better get through these tough times of COVID-19 quarantine without jobs. One of the companies offering free content is ARRI. As many of you already know, MZed is an online education platform with many courses and certified master classes. ARRI offers a total of five courses on MZed:

In the last few years, ARRI held these Master Classes as a part of the Camerimage film festival in Poland. All three ARRI Master Classes on MZed were recorded during these live workshops. I was present at the ARRI Master Class in 2018 during my visit at the Camerimage film festival. If you ever attend the festival, don’t forget to register for this workshop as it is free and definitely worth it.
While ARRI claims all of their MZed Master Classes are free, I found out that the newest one – ARRI Christmas Master Class with Julio Macat ASC – is not (yet?) available for free. That one is currently available as a paid content only. That leaves us with two free Master Classes – High Dynamic Range with Karl Walter Lindenlaub ASC, and Large Format Cinematography with James Laxton ASC.
High Dynamic Range with Karl Walter Lindenlaub ASC
This workshop from 2017’s Camerimage festival explains lighting for HDR. Through lighting an apartment set for three different times of day, Karl Walter shares his processes for lighting interiors and how he approaches the increased possibilities of higher dynamic range. This course is presented in HDR for compatible displays. The duration is 2 hours, 14 minutes.
Large Format Cinematography with James Laxton ASC
In this ARRI Academy masterclass from Camerimage 2018, James Laxton ASC discusses his approach to cinematography and his experience shooting large-format cinema with the ARRI ALEXA 65 camera and Signature Primes lenses. The duration is 2 hours, 21 minutes.
