Atomos Partner Up with SIGMA to Bring Camera to Cloud Workflow

With the latest firmware updates for the SIGMA fp/fp L, both cameras now benefit from Camera to Cloud (C2C) capabilities when used with an Atomos Shogun CONNECT and Atomos Ninja V/Ninja V+ monitor-recorder with a CONNECT module. In February 2023, SIGMA launched two new firmware updates for its fp (version 5.00) and fp L cameras (version 3.00). Amongst the many new features and improvements, one of the most significant additions to the fp/fp L was the Atomos Camera to Cloud support. However, if you want to learn more about all the SIGMA fp/fp L and Camera to Cloud technical details, we caught up with Atomos to get a first look at what could be the future of production.

Atomos brings Camera to Cloud to the SIGMA fp and fp L

First, let’s start with all the gear you need to benefit from the Camera to Cloud features: a SIGMA fp/fp L with the latest firmware, an Atomos device with CONNECT capabilities such as the Ninja V/Ninja V+ with CONNECT module, an Atomos Shogun CONNECT or the latest ZATO CONNECT if you don’t need recording capabilities.

When you have all the parts, you can connect your SIGMA fp/fp L to your Atomos device via a mini-HDMI to full-size HDMI cable. Then, you need to set up and configure your Atomos CONNECT device so it can access your Atomos CLOUD or frame.io account to upload your proxy files in real-time.

Atomos mentions that the Atomos CLOUD storage is free but limited to 720p proxies. Atomos CLOUD will cost you $5 per month if you want to upload 1080p proxy files.

Of course, to upload proxy files to the cloud, your Atomos CONNECT device needs to be connected to the Internet. There are three ways to connect your monitor or monitor recorder to the web: via an Ethernet cable, WiFi, or a portable WiFi router such as a Sclera Digital or Teradek Link AX, for example.

When everything is set up, you end up with a camera rig capable of recording in three places: internally to the SIGMA fp/fp L, externally to the Ninja V/V+ or Shogun Connect, and your Atomos CLOUD or frame.io account.

The nice thing about the Atomos Camera to Cloud solution is that your footage is uploaded to the cloud in nearly real-time. It means that for long takes, 80% of your take is already synced to the web when you stop recording.
