Blackmagic Design Increases Prices Due to Inflation

Blackmagic Design was recently forced to raise prices due to increased costs in the supply chain. Affected products include their BMPCC 6K Pro and URSA Mini Pro 12K. Let’s take a closer look.

Last year, Blackmagic Design surprised the industry with a massive 40% price drop on their flagship production camera, the URSA Mini Pro 12K. According to the company, increased efficiency in the manufacturing process was enough to justify the $4,000 price reduction (from $9,995 to just $5,995).

Apparently, it looks like external circumstances are now forcing Blackmagic Design to follow the opposite trend. Indeed, a few days ago, an official statement – signed by CEO Grant Petty – popped up on the company’s Facebook page, announcing increased prices for a vast range of their products.

Blackmagic Design is forced to increase prices due to inflation

According to the official statement, this hard decision was dictated by inflation affecting the supply chain of materials and electronic components in general. Price increases seem to impact all categories of products, from cameras to live production switchers, passing through DaVinci Resolve control panels and consoles. Here’s a full list of affected items, as published by the manufacturer:

• Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro change from $2,495 to $2,535 for a $40 increase.
• Blackmagic Pocket Camera Battery Grip change from $245 to $255 for a $10 increase.
• Blackmagic Pocket Camera Battery Pro Grip change from $145 to $149 for a $4 increase.
• Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K change from $5,995 to $6,385 for a $390 increase.
• Blackmagic URSA Viewfinder change from $1,495 to $1,525 for a $30 increase.

Price reductions

Despite the challenging times, there’s also good news. In fact, Blackmagic Design managed to shelter some of their products from the price increase. Or better still, some items actually saw their price dropping. The list includes:

• DaVinci Resolve Advanced Panel change from $29,995 to $27,585 for a $2,410 decrease.
• Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K change from $695 to $675 for a $20 decrease.
• Fairlight Desktop Console change from $3,495 to $3,055 for a $440 decrease.
• Fairlight Console Channel Fader change from $4,595 to $4,075 for a $520 decrease.
• Ultimatte 12 4K recently changed from $9,995 to $2,495 for a $7,500 decrease.

Finally, although this is an uncomfortable situation for both the company and its customers, the transparency with which Blackmagic Design announced its decision must be praised.
