BLAZAR Remus 50mm T2.0, 85mm T2.8 and 125mm T4.0 Anamorphic Full Frame Primes Announced

BLAZAR, known for bringing affordable anamorphic lenses to the market, have announced the release of a new set of lenses in their Remus collection – the Remus B set. The set includes four lenses: the 33mm, 50mm, 125mm, and 85mm (released in July), all of which are full-frame, just like those in the original Remus A set. Let’s have a look.

Along with a few individual 1.8x full-frame anamorphic lenses like the 85mm/T2.9 (released under the name Great Joy), Remus brought out their first 1.5x anamorphic lens set at the end of last year, the Remus A set, consisting of three focal lengths – 45, 65, and 100mm. Now they’re back with a new set, the Remus B. Of note is that the 33mm is now included with either set.

Remus B Set – features and options

All Remus anamorphic lenses are full-frame with a constant 1.5x squeeze factor. The B Set lineup includes the following focal lengths: 33mm at T1.8 / 50mm at T2.0 / 85mm at T2.8, and 125mm at T4.0. All lenses are available in PL or EF mount, however, the mounts are interchangeable.

The minimum focus distance for the lenses is as follows: 33mm: 0.49m, 50mm: 0.74m, 85mm: 0.75m, and 125mm: 0.76m. The lenses are lightweight, weighing in at 33mm: 780g/1.7 lbs, 50mm: 716g/1.57 lbs, 85mm: 811g/1.78 lbs, and 125mm: 820g/1.8 lbs.

Price and availability

It’s great to see that although this is considered a “set”, BLAZAR also sells each lens in either set individually. They offer a discount if you purchase an entire line of Remus lenses.

Preorders for the Remus B Set are now open, and according to the company, the set will be priced similarly to previous releases. Each lens is individually priced at $999, except for the 33mm, which is slightly higher at $1,199 (as it’s considered a “specialty lens”). Orders will begin shipping immediately other than the 33mm, which is expected to ship within a few months.
