Canon EOS R50 V Announced with RF-S 14-30mm F4–6.3 IS STM PZ Lens

Canon has unveiled the EOS R50 V, an APS-C interchangeable-lens camera built specifically for filmmakers and content creators. Targeting vloggers, livestreamers, documentarians, and influencers, the EOS R50 V packs lots of video tools into a compact design.

EOS R50 V – built for content creators

According to the company, the EOS R50 V is designed to meet the demands of today’s ambitious creators. Its 24MP APS-C sensor captures detailed footage, oversampling 4K video from a 6K resolution. This results in quality images at 4K 60p (cropped) and 4K 30p.

RF-S 14-30mm F4–6.3 IS STM PZ – compact lens with Canon’s first RF power zoom

Included as the kit lens with the EOS R50 V, the RF-S 14-30mm F4–6.3 IS STM PZ is designed specifically for video creation. It offers Canon’s first RF-mount internal power zoom, that according to the company, enablis seamless zoom transitions at two-step variable speeds and 15 adjustable levels.

Its compact build (just 181g/0.4 oz) is perfectly balanced for gimbals and handheld filming, with a non-extending design that maintains stability even when zooming.

Creators benefit from ultra-wide 14mm coverage ideal for solo vlogging, plus Optical Image Stabilization, which offers up to 5 stops of shake reduction—or 7.5 stops when combined with IBIS (not to be confused, when attached to a camera that has IBIS. The EOS R50 V does not have one).

How does the EOS R50 V differ from the original EOS R50?

Canon previously launched the EOS R50 (covered by CineD here), an APS-C model aimed at hybrid creators. The new EOS R50 V specifically targets video production.

Key differences include removing the electronic viewfinder (EVF) on the R50 V, allowing Canon to prioritize video ergonomics and add professional video features. The EOS R50 V includes Canon Log 3, four-channel audio recording, oversampled 4K, and a vertical tripod mount—features tailored explicitly for creators to enhance their storytelling.

Final thoughts

The Canon EOS R50 V and RF-S 14-30mm F4–6.3 IS STM PZ lens clearly target filmmakers and content creators, providing advanced video tools in a compact, travel-friendly kit. This combination offers impressive versatility, and hopefully a good level of video image quality. It’s a pitty to see that the EVF has gone, but maybe it is a sign of modern content creation…
