These firmware updates will be available free of charge at the end of the month. So, let’s take a closer look at all the new features your camera will benefit from!

Alongside releasing the newest Canon EOS C400 cinema camera, Canon doesn’t forget their loyal customers and announced firmware updates for most of their cinema cameras, which, as a Canon shooter, is always nice to see.

Let’s start with one of the most significant additions for Canon EOS C300 Mark III shooters: Cinema RAW Light formats. Back in March 2024, Canon added these Cinema RAW Light HQ/ST/LT recording formats to the EOS C500 Mark II. Also, the EOS C300 Mark III will now have a new Auto ISO/Gain option with a high ISO limit that can be directly activated from the camera menu, an assignable button, or remotely via a controller, XC protocol, or the browser remote.

Next, for the EOS C500 Mark II and C300 Mark III, you can now assign a button to switch between different sensor modes. This feature will be especially handy for switching quickly between Full Frame and Super35/Super16mm crop modes on the EOS C500 Mark II without navigating inside the camera’s menu system.

Let’s continue with some additions for the EOS C300 Mark III, C500 Mark II, C70, and EOS R5 C. The first addition is a small but convenient feature that allows you to enlarge the Dual Pixel Focus Guide assist tool. Next, in playback mode, Canon added the possibility of displaying markers.

For EOS C70 and EOS R5 C shooters, you can now assign the Select dial at the back of the camera to your shutter speed, aperture, ISO, white balance mode, or selected subject. Honestly, I’ve been waiting for that feature since the release of the EOS C70. Indeed, I always expected that dial to be able to change some settings and felt frustrated that it did nothing other than navigate inside the menu.

The EOS R5 C now has three settings for the AF Frame thickness: Normal, Slightly Thick, and Thick. You can also reset the AF position by pushing the joystick or set buttons. Last but not least, when shooting RAW VR content with the Canon RF 5.2mm F/2.8L dual fisheye lens, you will now be able to record both the peripheral illumination and chromatic aberration data.

Last but not least, the Canon XA75/70/65/60 will benefit from some improvements, including the OSD data (date/time), which will now be visible during recording. Also, you can now adjust the white balance during recording and change it from Auto to a preset or custom white balance.

Price and availability

All firmware updates will be available to download for free on June 27th.
