Cinema Grip for iPhone 15 Pro/Max Coming Soon to Indiegogo - Designed for Filmmakers

Quip Design has announced an upcoming cinema grip for the iPhone Pro/Max that will be launched through an Indiegogo campaign soon. Featuring a USB port expansion, among other features, the first images from the product look promising. Let’s take a closer look at it!

EDIT: The campaign is now live here.

Since Apple launched the iPhone 15 Pro series, we are witnessing a race with different brands offering accessories to boost and accommodate its impressive recording features. Grips, cages, SSDs, LUTs, you name it. Now, Quip Design announces a new grip with similar features to other mirrorless and cinema camera cages, like multiple mounting threads and solid metal construction.

Unlocking the iPhone 15 Pro’s potential

The Cinema Grip by Quip Design has been designed for filmmakers, and the illustrative images reminded me of the original BMPCC or the Sigma FP. Thought of as a plug-and-play accessory (you can attach the phone even with the case), its features make it a really attractive and complete product. For example, the camera cage has an integrated USB expansion port for SSDs and USB IO, unlocking Apple ProRes 4K 60fps recording. The port will allow the use of different accessories like the Cinema Grip SSD or the upcoming Studio Pro Expansion Card, enabling the use of CF Express cards while also featuring an HDMI out port, USB power delivery and USB IO.

At the same time, Quip Design will launch the Cinema Grip SSD, a Type-C 1TB SSD featuring 1,000MB/s read and write speeds.

Cinema Grip: built to last

The Cinema Grip is made of CNC aluminum with different 1/4” mounting holes and anodized in a black finish. A soft anti-scratch polyester microfiber covers the aluminum, and the final unit will be available in various colors. The grip also presents a cooling system with up to 15W heat transfer temperatures for uninterrupted recording. The inclusion of dozens of mounting threads gives us the possibility of attaching filters, cold shoe mounts, microphones, magic arms, etc.

Finally, the Cinema Grip supports standard 52mm lens filters, giving us more control over the final image.

Price and availability

The Cinema Grip by Quip Design will be available in the second quarter of 2024 via an Indiegogo campaign. The company has announced 30% off the final product through the crowdfunding platform. The backers referring a friend will receive a free pack valued at $69, including custom cold shoes, a padded strap, and the One Touch Cinema LUT. You can join the waitlist here.

At the end of every crowdfunding-related article, we remind you to please be aware of the risks when backing a project on a crowdfunding platform. Also, please read the platform’s use and remember there can be significant delays when delivering the product. Some projects don’t get delivered at all.
