Colourlab Ai v1.1 Released - New Features and Apple M1 Support

Colourlab Ai has just released a v1.1 update to its artificial intelligence based color grading tool. This update brings several new key features and improvements, including the direct integration of the Look Designer plugin for DaVinci Resolve, a new “Frames of Interest” tool, and support for Apple’s M1 computers. Let’s take a closer look at it!

If you’re new to Colourlab Ai, this software allows you to color grade your footage based on the look of a reference image or graded clip, and on top, match the color look between different cameras easily. We already had the chance to learn more about this color grading tool with the CEO, Dado Valentic, during an exclusive interview that you can watch here.

Colourlab Ai is a promising software launched in November 2020 during a “beta test period,” and the team worked hard in the meantime, gathering user feedback to refine and improve Colourlab Ai in v1.1 that is out now.

Colourlab Ai v1.1 – What’s New

The team at Colourlab Ai put a lot of energy to bring new and improved features into this version 1.1. For DaVinci Resolve users, you now have a direct integration of the Look Designer plugin inside Resolve. According to Colourlab Ai:

This plugin combines a revolutionary subtractive color processing with film negative and print stock emulation that allows users to create original show looks in a color pipeline that truly emulates the look and feel of celluloid. The Look Designer plugin is well established amongst high-end post-production facilities, and now with Colourlab Ai, it becomes available to even a wider range of filmmakers.

Also, there’s now another Ai-based feature called “Frames of Interest”. This tool will show you the brightest or darkest frames within a shot and the most similar and most dissimilar colors to the grading reference. This feature can be handy to speed up your workflow and quickly see the things you need to tweak so your grade is more consistent.

On the improvement side, Colourlab Ai v1.1 is now natively supported by Apple’s latest M1 Macs and includes color-managed support for both iPhone 12 Dolby HDR and footage acquired in the FiLMic Pro iOS app.

Last but not least, here are a couple of other improvements in Colourlab Ai v1.1:

  • Support for Tangent control surfaces.
  • Gamut limit controls.
  • Advanced color managed workflow for DaVinci Resolve 17.
  • Avid AAF import.
  • New Look Presets library created in partnership with Lutify.me.
