Comica Ejoy Uni and Uni Pro Microphones Introduced with RGB Functionality

Comica Ejoy Uni and Uni Pro are quite the innovative duo, though it appears Comica has taken their innovation in an unexpected direction. Both the Ejoy Uni and Uni Pro are cardioid-condenser microphones aimed at various use cases. With a spec list to boot, one can’t help but ask—RGB? On a microphone? Well, I believe Comica chose this direction with a key insight in mind: a tabletop microphone is as much a recording device as a visual prop.

The Comica Ejoy Uni and the Uni Pro are essentially the same device with one difference: The Pro comes with wireless functionality. The receiver is a tiny USB-C dongle, smaller than most Disk-On-Keys. It will find its place on most USB-C compatible devices, such as Desktop or laptop computers, iPads, iPhone 15, and various Android devices. As stated by Comica, the transfer range is 20 meters. There is no mention regarding direct camera connection. The Ejoy Uni is a USB-C / USB-A wired microphone.

Audio specs

Both the Ejoy Uni and Uni Pro share the same specifications. The mics boast a 48kHz/24bit Recording output, which should do the job for the intended audience. The cardioid pickup pattern will gather sound from about 120 degrees. A noise reduction function should minimize unwanted noises but will also affect the audio quality, so be sure to check it before prime time. The Ejoy mics include an internal sound card for plug-and-play functionality with minimal hassle.

Build and controls

The Ejoy Uni and Uni Pro mics boast quite a few control points. On the bottom, we’ll find a large gain knob. Above that is a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. This output lacks any volume control. Two buttons are situated in the middle front of the mic – one for RGB On/Off and to toggle between the three modes, and one to connect the mic as well as activating or deactivating the noise reduction. Atop the mic is a touch-sensitive mute button and a little red indicator lamp.

A metal pop filter is included, and that just might be the single metal piece of the set. As one may expect from the affordable price tag, the Ejoy Uni and Uni Pro are all plastic products, for better or worse. This might not be an issue since studios will probably be their main environment, but bear this in mind.

RGB mic? What does that even mean?

Simply put – it means there are several RGB LEDs around the unit, which will light the mic itself and not much more. Some readers may view this feature as gimmicky or unprofessional, but its inclusion highlights an intriguing aspect of microphone use in some content creation fields. A microphone, at times, is more of a prop than an audio device. It renders the set appearance somewhat more professional. Such a professional look may enhance the speaker’s knowledgeable facade, creating a sense of authority. Not bad for a $45-$69 product…

Who is it for?

The Comoca Ejoy Uni mics are aimed at the affordable end of audio-video content creators. With prices ranging from $45 to $69, it’s a readily accessible solution for those who want to up their audio game from the most basic internal computer, tablet, or smartphone microphones.

Price and availability

The Comica Ejoy is certainly on the more affordable side of things. The Enjoy Uni will cost $45 and the wireless-capable Ejoy Uni Pro will set you back $65. If you’d like to upgrade the desk stand to a boom arm, an additional $4 will be added for a total of $49/$69 for the Uni/Pro, respectively.

Do you see any value in these innovations, or will you prefer a classic XLR flightless mic for your next project? Let us know in the comments.
