Core SWX MoXIE Solo Unveiled – A Mobile Power Solution with 3,6kW AC Power and More

Core SWX – a company specializing in power solutions for filmmakers – has just introduced their new product called MoXIE Solo. This alternative to traditional generators features a compact portable unit, providing simultaneous pure sine wave 3,6kW AC power and multiple DC outputs. According to the announcement, the MoXIE Solo also highlights the very first Sodium ion-based battery in the cinema industry. Let’s take a closer look at further details and specifications.

As CEO at Core SWX Ross Kanarek explains, they designed MoXIE Solo with creative professionals and industry sustainability in mind. The idea behind this product is to offer the ultimate energy solution for on-location shoots, remote film sets, and emergency backups, but using a greener approach. At first sight, the new powerhouse indeed checks all the boxes: quiet, compact, powerful, easier to transport, and using more eco-friendly cells.

The MoXIE Solo’s capacity

The MoXIE Solo delivers 3,6 kW AC output. Its pure sine wave power ensures a smooth and consistent current, which prevents the risk of interference, hum, and potential damage to sensitive electronic devices. This fact is especially crucial if you use the portable energy unit to power high-end cameras, audio equipment, and lighting systems. In terms of output, it can be compared to a Honda 5k gas generator and is said to deliver the same power but with zero CO2 and NOx emissions (and also – silently).

Users can also increase the capacity of MoXIE Solo by connecting additional cell packs directly to the unit. It is equipped with two expansion ports. This feature enables you to add power on the go or start directly with 9kWh. For that, you would need to couple three Vita Cell packs. We will give more details on different cell options below.

AC Generator with internal charge

The single battery cell unit has a 20A 110v AC input. According to the press release, it can internally charge the cell in just 2.5 hours (both with Vita and Kodiak cell options). The developers plan on accelerating this process to up to 30 minutes for Kodiak cell by the product’s launch.

If you need to use the MoXIE solo system without interruption, you can also replace the MoXIE cells and charge them externally.

Users can check battery status, output levels, and system diagnostics on the integrated 5” touchscreen display that provides real-time information for monitoring.

Additional outputs

In addition to AC power, the MoXIE Solo offers multiple DC outputs (15v, 28v, and 48v), capable of handling up to 16A each. It also has two power tap 14v outputs, as well as USBC PD and USBA ports.

This array of versatile options will allow filmmakers to not only power their gear on set but also to charge almost any device up to mobile phones, and to perform firmware updates.

Battery cell options for MoXIE Solo

At the moment, the MoXIE Solo system offers two battery cell options. The first is called “Vita” and is a 3kWh LifePO4 battery with a life cycle of over 4000 cycles. The second one is a “Kodiak” cell (2kWh), which Core SWX calls “the very first Sodium Ion-based battery in the cinema industry.” This technology makes Kodiak a good choice for harsh, cold environments where traditional batteries might fail.

Sodium Ion technology is eco-friendly, fully recyclable, doesn’t require rare earth metals, and maintains over 90% capacity at -40°F, making it ideal for cold environments.

Both cell packs feature LED indicators and Core’s LED light bars to check their status.

Logistically, the company promises to collaborate with rental partners across North America, so that both cell packs could be available to rent at the user’s shooting destination.

Portability

What makes MoXIE Solo indeed stand out is its compact design. The powerhouse is packed into a robust aluminum cage with wheels, ensuring its durability and mobility. The entire unit weighs 121lbs with the cell installed (around 55kg) and only 59lbs (or 27kg) when they are removed for transportation. Here are the overall measurements:

As you can see in the image above, MoXIE Solo can be transported in a regular car or a small production van, and it doesn’t require a forklift.
