Color grading is a relatively complex area of the post-production process with certain rules. For many filmmakers, color grading begins and ends with applying a LUT to their footage. There are also, unfortunately, many misunderstandings and misconceptions regarding color grading out there. For those who want to really understand the process of color grading and get better at it, there is now a new online platform called DeMystify Color. What does it offer?

DeMystify Color – Online Education and Resources Platform for Color Grading

A colorist based in Vienna, Austria, Nico Wieseneder launched DeMystify Color after he kept seeing the vast amount of misleading and unprofessional resources regarding color grading available on the internet. Nico has been working in the film industry for over 5 years. Since 2018, he has been working as a fulltime colorist. He completed several courses at the International Colorist Academy with Blake Jones in Vienna and Dado Valentic in Berlin. Since then, he worked for many national and international clients.

DeMystify Color is a curated resource library with articles, free footage to download, educational resources, useful forum threads and much more that is relevant for getting into color grading and figuring out workflows. Through this platform, users will find articles from prestigious colorists like Walter Volpatto (The Green Book, Dunkirk,…), Eric Weidt (Mindhunter, House Of Cards, …) and many more.

On DeMystify, users can also find a shop with Power Grades which Nico developed over the years working as a full-time colorist and a tutorial series with quick tips for DaVinci Resolve. He also offers a tailored one-on-one mentoring program via Skype, Zoom, or similar.

DeMystify Color is currently running in beta version, but Nico is working on more content to come in the next months. If you have any questions, bug reports, feedback or troubles, you can get in touch with Nico here.
