DJI Fly App v1.5.8 Update – Mavic 3 Drone Gets Missing Features

DJI has been busy tweaking the firmware code of some of its most popular products lately (See our article about DJI Action 2 here). This time, the Mavic 3 drone gets a code polish, enabling some features that DJI promised back when the new drone was released in November 2021. So now we get things like QuickShots, Panorama Modes, and perhaps most importantly, Color Display Assist for D-Log.

The new v1.5.8 version for the iOS and Android versions of the DJI Fly app is now available. To make proper use of it, you also need to update your Mavic 3 drone (read our article here) and its controller to version v01.00.0500 (aircraft) and v04.13.0500 (controller). Everything can be done through the app itself, as usual.

This time DJI has compiled a pretty extensive list of improvements in the changelog (unfortunately that’s not always the case, more often than not it just says “bugs fixed”): Many features that DJI promised when releasing the Mavic 3 have finally been implemented, including View Assist when shooting in D-Log profile, various QuickShots presets, panorama modes, digital zoom and last but not least QuickTransfer.

The above video is the offical launch video for the DJI Mavic 3 drone, released in November 2021.

DJI Mavic 3 firmware update

Here’s a full ist of added features and fixed problems with the latest v01.00.0500 firmware in conjunction with the latest v1.5.8 DJI Fly App:

  • Added QuickShots including Dronie, Rocket, Circle, Helix, Boomerang, and Asteroid.
  • Added Panorama mode, capable of capturing in high resolution.
  • Added burst shooting.
  • Added digital zoom for normal video mode.
  • Added Color Display Assist for D-Log.
  • Added 4K/60fps and manual EI adjustment for MasterShots.
  • Added QuickTransfer.
  • Added zoom and D-Log for FocusTrack when recording video.
  • Added support to set RTH altitude for Advanced RTH.
  • Added USB mode for Mavic 3 Cine for copying data.
  • Optimized accuracy of color correction.
  • Increased image sharpness of Tele camera when shooting at high magnification.
  • Optimized image area for Timelapse photos.
  • Added support to DJI RC Pro to output clean HDMI footage.
  • Added support for DJI RC Pro to cache video and download original video to an external SD card.
  • Added support to use DJI RC Pro with DJI Air 2S.
  • Fixed some minor bugs.

As mentioned above, the DJI Fly App v1.5.8 is required for this to work, as DJI puts it:

  • Added features require DJI Fly v1.5.8 or later.
  • USB mode will be disabled after updating firmware. Users can enable USB mode again in DJI Fly.
  • If the update fails, restart aircraft, remote controller, and DJI Fly or DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series), and retry.

Be sure to read through this thread on the DJI user forum before blindly applying the update, but as far as I can tell it seems to be running pretty smoothly so far.

In order to update you Mavic 3, here’s a helpful video guiding you through all the necessary steps:

As you can also see from the provided change log, DJI’s RC Pro controller is also made compatible with the Air 2S drone through this new firmware.
