DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Firmware Update Adds Med-Tele Mode, Focus Breathing Compensation, and More

With the new firmware update, DJI Osmo Pocket 3 introduces a new Med-Tele mode which brings improved image quality when zoomed in to 40mm focal length equivalent. Furthermore, the camera now features a breathing compensation feature, D-Log M (10-bit) color option in webcam mode, and more.

In case you missed it, make sure to check out Johnnie’s short documentary made entirely with the Osmo Pocket 3. Since its release, DJI has improved the camera a few times with firmware updates. This most recent update (released on February 18, 2025) brings a handful of interesting new features. Let’s take a quick look at what’s new.

DJI Osmo Pocket 3 – firmware version v01.06.08.04

According to DJI, the new Osmo Pocket 3 firmware update brings the following new features and improvements:

  • Added Med-Tele mode. In Video mode, tap the <> icon at the bottom of the screen to enable the mode. When enabled, a 2x magnified mid-telephoto view can be achieved (equivalent focal length of 40 mm) while maintaining a maximum 4K UHD resolution. DJI claims that, compared to digital zoom, Med-Tele mode enhances image resolution, preserving more texture details. (In Med-Tele mode, the maximum ISO is 1600, and ActiveTrack is not supported.)

  • Added breathing compensation feature. When enabled, the camera corrects changes in the field of view caused by shifts in focus distance during recording, optimizing the visual experience.
  • Added D-Log M (10 bit) color option in Webcam mode.
  • Added background download for files in the DJI Mimo App. The DJI Mimo App needs to be updated to the latest version.
  • DJI Mimo 2.1.12 supports taking video screenshots and saving as static photos and live photos. The availability of video screenshots depends on the support of system versions from Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, vivo, and OPPO.
  • Fixed some minor bugs.

Med-Tele mode vs 2x digital zoom

Honestly, I rarely ever used the 2x digital zoom feature with my Osmo Pocket 3 because I always preferred zooming-in later in postproduction, if needed. The resulting image quality was almost the same, but I still had the whole 20mm wide-angle image to work with.

The new Med-Tele mode, however, does sound interesting to me as there were situations where I couldn’t physically move closer to my subject, but I still needed a slightly tighter field of view.

I did a quick comparison of the image quality between the existing 2x digital zoom and the new Med-Tele mode. Both provide the same FOV with a 40mm equivalent focal length. I am happy to report that the new Med-Tele mode does provide a more detailed image.

The Med-Tele mode, however, has some limitations:

  • Med-Tele mode only works in Normal color profile (it is not available in D-Log M or HLG).
  • ActiveTrack is not available
  • Maximum ISO is 1600
  • Unlike the 2x digital zoom, you can’t switch the Med-Tele mode on/off during recording. You will need to stop recording and then toggle it on/off.

Price and availability

The firmware update is available free of charge and the Osmo Pocket 3 can be updated via the DJI Mimo smartphone app. DJI also recommends updating the app to the latest version v2.2.0 (iOS or Android) first.

For reference, the Osmo Pocket 3 currently retails for $519 (standard kit) or $669 (creator combo).
