SmallRig has announced three new accessories as part of an ecosystem for the DJI RS 3 Mini. These new components pair with the mini gimbal to increase utility and maximize camera compatibility. If ergonomics, extended camera support, and greater flexibility with vertical shooting are essential to you, you might want to check this out. SmallRig began developing accessories for the DJI Ronin S, the original handheld Ronin gimbal, back in 2018. Since then, they have officially partnered with DJI to design and produce DJI PRO Series accessories that integrate perfectly with their product lineup. SmallRig makes power supplies, extension plates, handgrips, rings, monitor mounts, and many other accessories that expand the capabilities of DJI’s gimbals.

If you’re looking to fine-tune or customize your gimbal setup, SmallRig has a solution for your needs. So it’s only natural that they would begin producing products for the RS 3 Mini, DJI’s newest and smallest Ronin gimbal.

This accessory release features three products that expand the use of the RS 3 Mini: a handgrip, an Arca-Swiss mount plate, and an extended vertical arm.

Sling Handle for DJI RS 3 Mini

Made from aluminum alloy and plastic components, the Sling Handle for DJI RS 3 Mini is lightweight, ergonomic, and portable. Weighing in at less than an iPhone 14 Pro, this handle allows the operator to hold the gimbal in sling mode for low-angle shooting. Attaching to the side NATO mount, it features an ergonomic design, making it comfortable to hold and easier to center the camera.

Extended Vertical Arm for DJI RS 3 Mini

SmallRig’s Extended Vertical Arm for DJI RS 3 Mini increases the vertical balance placement of the camera on the RS 3 Mini by 15mm. This extra length makes it easier to balance top-heavy camera and lens combinations. It does this without dramatically increasing the overall gimbal weight and maintaining the rail mount for 9:16 shooters.

Arca-Swiss Mount Plate for DJI RS 3 Mini

By replacing DJI’s proprietary camera plate, the Arca-Swiss Mount Plate makes setting up and breaking down the gimbal faster. Additionally, its smaller design allows the camera to be positioned lower on the gimbal’s pan axis, making it easier to mount larger cameras to the RS 3 Mini.

It can be mounted by sliding in from the side or top, helping you to switch quickly between vertical and horizontal shooting.

It lets the camera sit a whole 25mm lower when in use with the Extended Vertical Arm combination. That can make a big difference in the cameras that the RS 3 Mini can balance.

According to SmallRig, the vertical arm and Acra-Swiss mount are “designed to support various other cameras, such as Sony FX3 with 24-70mm lens, Canon R5 with 24-70mm lens, FUJIFILM X-T5 with 16-55mm lens and LUMIX GH6 with 12-60mm lens.” If that is true, this could be a game-changer for shooters on the go!

Price and availability

SmallRig estimates the Arca-Swiss Mount Plate & Extended Vertical Arm for DJI RS 3 Mini will begin shipping on April 27, 2023. Both accessories cost $29.90 each, currently $25.90, with a 15% discount. There is no information about the cost or availability of the Sling Handle, but it should be available soon.
