DoPchoice RABBIT-ROUNDER and RABBIT-MAX Universal SNAPBAG Systems Explained

When using light modifiers, compatibility issues between fixtures from different manufacturers can arise. So we decided to stop by the DoPchoice booth at NAB to learn how their RABBIT-ROUNDER and RABBIT-MAX universal SNAPBAG systems can solve this problem. Let’s have a look!

For the last few weeks, several lighting product manufacturers have come out with new, powerful COB LED fixtures. The recently-released NANLITE Forza 720 and 720B, the Aputure LS 600c Pro, and the Prolycht Orion 675 FS are just a few examples. However, not all companies adopt the same mount standard for lighting accessories. And of course, buying a set of modifiers for each system is not a feasible path.

Here’s where the new DoPchoice RABBIT-ROUNDER and RABBIT-MAX SNAPBAG systems come into play. We visited the company’s booth at NAB where Stephan Karle taught us more about their attempt to offer a universal solution. Let’s start from the first of these two rabbits!

DoPchoice RABBIT-ROUNDER: mounting complexity simplified

The DoPchoice RABBIT-ROUNDER is a universal mounting system designed to ensure compatibility between a variety of DoPchoice SNAPBAG modifiers (such as softboxes and lanterns) and differently-branded fixtures.

The system consists of a main metal ring-shaped structure, a mount adapter, and the actual light modifier (softbox or lantern) which is supported by a series of clickable arms. The mount adapter comes in different options, including support for Aputure, Nanlite, and Fiilex products.

This solution seems pretty convenient. In fact, you can purchase a single set of DoPchoice SNAPBAG accessories and use them with many different light models. Furthermore, the DoPchoice website offers an intuitive approach that will guide you through finding your best match. Indeed, all you have to do is pick up a mount adapter and the desired modifiers: you’re now ready to go.

DoPchoice RABBIT-MAX

While the new RABBIT-ROUNDER is designed for COB spotlights, the company also developed a universal mounting solution for larger light sources: the DoP RABBIT-MAX. This system features an adjustable metal frame structure and a tensioning mechanism that allows to quickly assemble a huge diffusion, such as an 8-feet softbox, around a large-size LED panel.

For his demonstration, Stephan showed how the RABBIT-MAX easily wraps around an ARRI SkyPanel S360 or an array of DMG Lumière MAXI units to create a massive light source for an extra-soft quality of light.

Finally, both the RABBIT-ROUNDER and RABBIT-MAX look quite durable. This is good news, especially for intensive use, such as in rental houses or for big productions. Moreover, their deploying mechanism seems pretty straightforward and time-saving.

Price and availability

Although DoPchoice products may seem pricy, according to Stephan they are a future-proof investment. The new RABBIT-ROUNDER and RABBIT-MAX are available now from authorized dealers. However, I couldn’t find any official pricing information for this system. Nonetheless, I believe the price varies quite a bit depending on the chosen configuration.
