Freefly Systems Introduces New Panasonic LUMIX BGH1 & BS1H Camera Options for Mōvi Carbon

Freefly Systems just introduced two new payload options for their Mōvi Carbon 5-axis gimbal system: the Panasonic LUMIX BGH1 – which replaces the GH5S option – and the BS1H. Both box-style cinema cameras are paired with a FUJINON XK 20-120mm lens. Pricing starts at $69,995.

First announced around NAB 2017, the Mōvi Carbon is a compact and lightweight 5-axis stabilized system that is mainly designed for vehicle-based and drone cinematography and live-broadcast. Initially, the gimbal used to come paired with a Sony a7S II body and a 24-240mm lens, but the company then expanded this platform to support another popular camera model, namely the Panasonic LUMIX GH5S.

Now, Freefly is taking their Carbon ecosystem even further by adding two new LUMIX camera options, the Netflix-approved BGH1 and BS1H. Moreover, their newly announced Ember S5K Super 35 5K high-speed camera and the RED KOMODO will join the tribe at a later date. Let’s take a closer look!

Freefly Systems Mōvi Carbon: new BGH1 & BS1H camera options

When sitting inside the Mōvi Carbon, both the LUMIX BGH1 and BS1H are paired with a FUJINON XK 20-120mm T3.5 lens. This means that the former option provides a focal length range of 40-240mm (full-frame equivalent), while a 32-192mm range can be achieved using the BS1H in 4K Super 35mm crop mode. According to the company, the system can capture smooth shots even when using such long lenses.

Moreover, users can now directly control selected camera parameters remotely up to a claimed maximum distance of 1200ft/365m using the optional Mōvi Controller, which also displays the recording status. Adjustable settings include shutter angle, ISO, and White Balance.

The camera’s SDI and Ethernet output ports remain accessible from the Mōvi Carbon’s spine, while the gimbal is now powered by the company’s new SL4 batteries that recently replaced the original Mōvi Pro power solution.
