FUJIFILM has unveiled the GFX100RF, a bold new entry in the GFX System. This is FUJIFILM’s first fixed-lens large-format camera, bringing medium-format image quality into a compact, rangefinder-style body. Weighing just 735g (1.6 lbs) with a battery and SD card, it’s the lightest GFX camera yet. It still delivers stunning resolution, color depth, and dynamic range.
A new take on large format
At the heart of the GFX100RF is a 102MP GFX CMOS II HS sensor. It’s 1.7x larger than a full frame and housed in a solid aluminum top plate. The body is milled from a single 500g block for durability. The fixed 35mm f/4 lens (28mm full-frame equivalent) is sharp and versatile. It features 10 elements in 8 groups, including two aspherical and a Nano GI-coated element. A 9-blade aperture diaphragm provides smooth bokeh with an f/4 to f/22 range.
The digital teleconverter offers added flexibility. It allows in-camera cropping for 45mm, 63mm, and 80mm equivalent focal lengths (in photo mode only). The leaf shutter enables silent operation and flash sync at any speed, making it ideal for documentary, street, and travel photography.

FUJIFILM GFX100RF design and features
Despite its small size, the GFX100RF is packed with pro-level features. The Aspect Ratio Dial lets users switch between eight aspect ratios, including 4:3, 65:24, and 1:1. FUJIFILM took inspiration from their large-format photography legacy to offer creative framing options.
The built-in 4-stop ND filter helps control exposure in bright conditions. It allows for wider apertures or longer shutter speeds. Five-axis digital stabilization improves handheld shooting. This makes it easier to capture sharp images and smooth video.

Autofocus, film simulations, and ISO performance
FUJIFILM also improved autofocus. The AI-driven system detects faces, eyes, animals, birds, vehicles, and airplanes. According to the company, this makes the GFX100RF faster and more reliable for both stills and video.
FUJIFILM’s 20 built-in Film Simulations, including ETERNA, REALA Ace (great for video recording), and other classic analog looks. These profiles are ready straight out of the camera.
The ISO range is 80 to 12,800 for stills and 100 to 12,800 for video. This ensures high-quality imaging across different lighting conditions.

Video capabilities – ProRes and Cloud integration
The GFX100RF records 16×9 or DCI 4K video in up to 30p at up to 720Mbps. It captures 4:2:2 10-bit video internally. It supports F-Log and F-Log2, giving filmmakers more flexibility in post-production.
One of its biggest features is USB-C 10Gbps ProRes HQ External SSD recording. It enables higher-quality, edit-ready files. The camera also supports Frame.io Camera to Cloud, allowing instant file uploads for a seamless workflow.

The GFX100RF in the bigger FUJIFILM picture
The GFX100RF arrives as FUJIFILM continues to expand their large-format offerings. While this camera is aimed squarely at photographers, FUJIFILM is also developing the GFX ETERNA, a dedicated cinema camera designed for filmmakers. The GFX ETERNA features open-gate recording, dual native ISO, and advanced video tools, making it the true cinematic counterpart in Fujifilm’s lineup.

What excites me about the GFX100RF
A 102MP large-format camera this small and lightweight feels futuristic. The fixed lens might seem limiting, but the resolution makes up for it. Cropping and reframing in post still deliver high-quality images. Even a 1/4 crop leaves you with a 25MP file. That’s more than enough for most uses.
USB-C ProRes recording and Frame.io Camera-to-Cloud support stand out. Being able to capture high-quality footage straight to an SSD is huge. Uploading files instantly to the cloud also streamlines production.
A camera that stands out
With F-Log, F-Log2, USB-C ProRes recording, and XLR audio support, this is more than just a stills camera. The GFX100RF is a hybrid tool designed for photographers, filmmakers, and content creators.
I can’t wait to see real-world tests on image quality, lens sharpness, and low-light performance. In my opinion, FUJIFILM has delivered something bold, unique, and packed with features. This could be one of the most exciting large-format cameras yet.

Pricing and availability
The FUJIFILM GFX100RF is expected to ship in April 2025 for $4,899.95. It’s a unique entry in the GFX lineup, offering medium format quality in a more accessible, fixed-lens package.
