FUJIFILM X-H2S Camera to Cloud – Explained
During Inter BEE 2022, we chatted with Victor Ha from FUJIFILM regarding the recently-announced Camera to Cloud capabilities for their X-H2S camera + FT-XH grip combo. Both devices will receive free updates to enable this function in spring 2023.
One month ago, the Adobe-owned cloud-based collaboration platform frame.io came up with some groundbreaking news, announcing upcoming Camera to Cloud (C2C) integration for RED’s flagship V-RAPTOR and V-RAPTOR XL cameras as well as FUJIFILM’s X-H2S (Review/Lab Test).
We already had the chance to interview Victor about the X-H2S back in May, when the camera was officially released. Now, during Inter BEE 2022 in Tokyo, we merely focused on the upcoming cloud-based features, which can completely revolutionize the workflow of many photographers and filmmakers out there. Let’s take a look!

FUJIFILM X-H2S: frame.io Camera to Cloud intergration
If you’re not familiar with Camera to Cloud, I highly recommend watching this interview we shot back at Cine Gear 2022, in which Michael Cioni from frame.io depicts a not-so-far-away future where traditional media cards will be replaced by cloud-based workflows.
The Definitive Guide to DaVinci Resolve

Essentially, this technology enables you to instantly upload video files from the camera to the collaboration platform via the cloud, thus making footage immediately available for remote collaborators, such as editors and producers, to watch, edit, and review.

Mainly, for this magic to work on the X-H2S, the camera requires the addition of the dedicated FT-XH File Transmitter Grip, which can be purchased separately. The combo allows direct upload of RAW/JPEG stills as well as high-resolution ProRes or FullHD proxy video files from the field to the cloud.

Of course, access to a blazingly-fast internet connection is a fundamental requirement of this workflow and can represent a potential bottleneck nowadays. Moreover, this ability is currently limited to the X-H2S only, although Victor seemed optimistic about future implementations in other camera models, particularly the 8K-capable X-H2 (non S).
Price and availability
Free firmware updates for the FUJIFILM X-H2S camera body and FT-XH grip will be released around April 2023. For reference, the X-H2S is currently available on B&H/CVP for $2,499/€2,384, while the File Transmitter Grip costs $999/€905 (B&H/CVP).
