fylm.ai 2.0 Upgrade – Capture One ICC Profile and Style Export, AI Magic Mode, and More

fylm.ai 2.0 Upgrade - Capture One ICC Profile and Style Export, AI Magic Mode, and More

fylm.ai released their last update in October 2023, introducing NeuralToneAI. Now with a sleek, new redesign, the fylm.ai 2.0 update offers Capture One ICC profiles and styles export, a revitalized AI Magic Mode, improved handling of RAW files, and more. Let’s have a look at all the updates!

Fylm.ai, introduced in 2001, is an AI-powered, cloud-based platform designed for colorists and filmmakers to create and edit LUTs. Aimed at democratizing coloring for beginners up to advanced colorists, fylm.ai is easy to use, offering as much or as little support as you need to create the look you want.

New design – more streamlined with tabs

The interface is streamlined and requires fewer clicks to get where you want to go. The main design changes include:

  • Vertical tabs – all tools are now available as tabs in a column on the left and can be grouped into categories. Tap on a tool and it will be included in a separate ‘My Edits’ tab;
  • Editing actions are now in the left column next to Tools and easier to reach;
  • Assets, Discussion, and Export are on the right side of the interface – Search for Candidates and Matches in their respective tabs;
  • Presets now have their own vertical tab;
  • Export actions – four vertical tabs together on the right side of the interface – LUT export, XMP Profile export, Capture One ICC profile export, and Image save.

Capture One ICC export

Update 2.0 now gives you the ability to export your fylm.ai color grades to Capture One as ICC profiles. With the Custom LUT tool, you can also convert third-party .cube LUTs into a Capture One-compatible ICC profile. The following video explains just how it’s done:

Magic Mode – analyze with AI

Magic Mode has been updated in fylm.ai 2.0 to include AI features right up front. First, the AI analyzes your image for exposure, contrast, and white balance, and then offers suggestions based on this analysis. Film Grades now replace Cine Looks and Print Film Emulations, providing six different color-grading options. However, if you prefer the old model, it’s still available as a separate tool. Magic Mode functions like the previous version after the initial AI suggestions.

RAW file handling in fylm.ai 2.0

Fylm.ai no longer automatically demosaics your file into the ProPhoto RGB color space. Instead, it starts by showing you a JPEG preview and only performs the full conversion when you choose to. Speed is the main advantage – a JPEG preview loads quicker and you can start grading right away. You only need to demosaic the RAW file if you want to save a high-resolution image from fylm.ai.

Additionally, fylm.ai now demosaics files to ACES 2065-1 color space using a 32-bit floating point, giving you more flexibility and better quality in post-production.

More color control – the nuances

Every tool in fylm.ai now has opacity control giving you complete control over every nuance in your color grading. In addition, the new Vibrance tool boosts the saturation of less-saturated colors while keeping the already saturated colors mostly unchanged.

Fylm.ai offers an 8-minute video that gives a nice overview and shows you how to get started – how to import files, locate your assets, and navigate the color-grading workflow in fylm.ai:

Price and availability

There is a free version of the app as well as levels with different prices according to your needs. Take a look at their website if you haven’t signed up for fylm.ai yet. If you are already a fylm.ai user, the fylm.ai 2.0 upgrade is automatic when you open the app (you may need to clear your cache first.) Please note that if there are any issues, you can log in here.

Plus, if you’d like to try your hand at building your own LUT, have a look at CineD’s LUT builder, powered by fylm.ai! Read more about it here.
