High-End Audio Mixer/Recorders

The Sound Devices 633 6-Input Field Production Mixer and Digital Recorder is designed for production audio mixing and recording on set and in the field.

The unit is housed in a compact lightweight molded metalized carbon-fiber chassis and features six analog inputs: three XLR microphone preamplifier inputs with selectable phantom power, high-pass filters, input limiters, faders and variable pans, as well as three line-level TA3 (mini-XLR) inputs. The first XLR input can also function as an AES digital input and accept AES3 or AES42 inputs with +10 V phantom power for digital microphones. The two XLR outputs can also be used as four channels of AES output.

For filmmakers, field recordists, and sound designers who need pristine audio capture of up to six microphones, convenient automixing, and safe, redundant recording, the Sound Devices 833 multitrack field recorder is an ideal tool that puts the essence of the flagship Scorpio into a more compact and affordable form.

32-bit A/D converters allow you to avoid distortion and undue noise at virtually any input level. Utilize the internal 256GB SSD and up to two SD cards to record up to eight tracks of external sources plus four buses at up to 192 kHz, and route custom mixes to the camera and crew while driving headphones and a headset. Thanks to its handles and integrated 1/4"-20 threads, the 833 can be placed in a sound bag, attached to a camera/tripod, or even slung from a shoulder/neck strap.

Designed for production use in the field—and boasting a powerful feature set even by the standard of Sound Devices—the Scorpio is a 32-channel, 36-track, Dante-enabled portable field mixer and recorder with a panoply of connections.

Indeed, the Scorpio is the flagship sound-recording device in Sound Devices' production line. 16 high-quality, low-noise preamps are on-hand right from the device, accepting inputs over XLR, TA3, and TA5 connections. These preamps outperform all previous Sound Devices pres by any measurable spec. All of them provide 3-band EQs, analog limiting, high-pass filters, adjustable delays, and phantom power. Need 32 channels of Dante in and out? The Scorpio is equipped for that. It also handles AES I/O and gives you 12 analog outputs.

Multiple headphone outs are on hand to suit any kind of situation. Even communication headsets can be accommodated.

Designed for 8-series or Scorpio mixers, the Sound Devices CL-16 is a mixer controller that combines the functionality of a traditional channel strip with the power and versatility of modern digital mixers.

Once you connect it to your mixer-recorder via the included USB Type-B to USB Type-A cable, you can use the CL-16 to control channels, outputs, menus, metadata, and even on-set communications, and thus, improve the experience of cart-based location mixing. The CL-16 provides 16 Penny & Giles 100mm linear faders, which are considered some of the smoothest faders around.

The unit also offers 16 dedicated trim pots and a panoramic LCD screen that is readable in sunlight. This display will handle much of the necessary read-out information from your 8-series mixer-recorder.
