Godox Cube-S Wireless Mic System Announced - Tiny Microphones, Apple's Find My Support, and More

Godox just announced a new 2.4GHz wireless microphone system featuring 7g / 0.24 oz. ultra-lightweight microphones and a charger inspired by a “time capsule” look. The new Cube-S boosts 48kHz/24-bit audio quality, 300M transmission, and flexible App operation. This wireless microphone system is certified by Apple with integrated Find My support. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first product in this category to get Apple’s seal of approval. The basic system includes a clip-on transmitter with a built-in microphone and a dual-channel, plug-in receiver with a Lightning or USB-C connector.

Godox is a Chinese company specializing in lighting and audio equipment. Founded in 1993, it grew to serve the photography, broadcasting, cinematography, videography, and audio industries. Today, the company announced an audio device aimed at content creators, especially those using a mobile phone as their main tool to share their stories.

Godox Cune-S – main specification

The “lipstick-sized” device (charger) measures 8.78×3.09×3.55cm / 3.46×1.22×1.40 in, making it one of the smallest in the market. The mics are incredibly small and lightweight (7g / 0.24 oz.). Godox added to the package some colorful “fun stickers” for the transmitter, for a more personalized appeal. According to the company, the audio performance of the new product consists of a 48kHz/24bit sampling rate, 86dB dynamic range, >70dbSNR, and a Max of 115dB SPL (Sound Pressure Level, based on the decibel (dB) scale).

The transmitter also serves as a remote control to activate recording (or to take a snapshot) from your phone up to 50m away. Noise reduction is also included. (We always recommend testing such a feature before using it in the field to ensure it does not make your voice sound weird.)

When paired with the Godox Mic App, in addition to normal physical operation, Godox offers in-app device control. Expect to be able to adjust volume, have real-time sound monitoring, check the battery level, perform firmware updates, and more.

Godox claims stable transmission up to 300 meters (1,00 ft.) and up to 30 hours of runtime. The TX works 10 hours on a single charge, while the charging case allows two additional charges, bringing the total runtime to 30 hours. Charging time is rated 1.5h.

Most mobile phones use a USB-C or Lightning connection, and the Cube-S is available in two versions to accommodate both types (iOS and Android compatible). It can also be used to connect directly to a PC without any cable.

The Cube-S features Apple’s “Find My” support, integrating a tracking system to help users find their mics via the Find My app.

Different kits for different filming scenarios

The new Godox Cube-S will be offered in four different kits. Depending on usage, expect to find one or two magnetic transmitters, and depending on your mobile phone device, one can choose a USB-C or Lightning receiver version.
