Interesting grabs from the Blackmagic Cinema Camera

We’ve seen several Blackmagic Cinema Camera samples from Australian based filmmaker John Brawley who has been given the opportunity to be the first to play with the much anticipated new indie filmmaking tool, at times the BMCC is now even referred to as the “baby Alexa” (a hype can go too far at times, let’s see this camera on a set first).

Well here are some new frame grabs. They look really nice and the resolution seems quite convincing against the latest HDSLRS, but I wonder what they have to hide and why access to this camera is still so limited even though it is said to be released in a week from now.

Below you can check out an ungraded version of the full frame grab and grade it yourself. This was taken from a ProRes 422 (HQ) recording.

These frame grabs sure look convincing for a $3000 camera (find prices: US/EU) There’s a lot of detail and depth. It’s most of what an indie filmmaker could wish for at the price even though the camera is probably quite thin on the depth of field side.

I’ve heard people hate & love this camera before we’ve even seen it. Let’s be patient a little longer.
