iodyne’s Creator Series Released – A Glimpse Into the Way an Artist Thinks

iodyne, manufacturer of the blazing fast Pro Data SSD RAID storage solution, has recently released a short-form video series showcasing how top-tier Hollywood professionals integrate this data management device into their creative workflow. The first two episodes – featuring virtual production expert Sam Nicholson, ASC, and photographer Ger Ger – are now available to watch on YouTube.

iodyne is an American company specializing in storage solutions that are specifically catered towards filmmaking applications. Released in 2022, their high-speed Pro Data SSD external drive still remains one of the most performing storage solutions on the market, offering 5GB/s Thunderbolt speeds and high capacities of 12TB, 24TB, or even 48TB. My colleague Johnnie had the chance to test out the massive 48TB version and really enjoyed working with it. So, in case you missed it, make sure to check out his review here.

In this article, we will leave the fiddling technicalities of Pro Data aside (for that, you can refer to our previous extensive coverage). Instead, thanks to iodyne’s new Creator Series, we will take a look at how this product can provide peace of mind during the creative process in a scenario where technology works for you rather than the opposite.

iodyne Creator Series – Ep.1 with Sam Nicholson, ASC

Episode 1 of iodyne’s Creator Series brings you behind the scenes of a virtual production shoot with cinematographer and VFX supervisor Sam Nicholson, ASC. With over 4 decades of expertise in our industry, Sam is CEO and founder of Stargate Studios, an Award-winning production company and home to several VFX and virtual production experts.

As Sam puts it, camera technology advancement is a “geometric curve,” and we’re getting to a point where producing not terabytes but petabytes of data is becoming the standard for large productions. As a result, having a secure, fast, and reliable way to store and handle such data is essential unless you want data management to be an obstacle to a successful production. You can watch Episode 1 of the Creator Series below.

Episode 2 with artist and photographer Ger Ger

Episode 2 of iodyne’s Creator Series follows Austrian artist and creative director Ger Ger, showcasing how Pro Data cannot only serve the needs of filmmakers but can meet the demands of still photography as well. This is especially true considering the ever-increasing resolution and frame rates of modern digital cameras.

For an acclaimed photographer like Ger Ger, producing thousands of pictures every year while traveling the world to portray celebrities, one of the key benefits of using Pro Data is the ability to fit his whole archive into a backpack and always have it at his disposal. You can watch Episode 2 of the Creator Series below.
