Light Widow FIZLock Introduced – Sturdy Mounting Solution for Lens Motors

Light Widow has recently launched the FIZLock, a small articulating arm designed specifically to mount focus, iris, and zoom motors to your lens. It allows you to position each motor with pinpoint precision, quickly disengage it for lens change, and prevent it from moving when applying high torque. It retails for $140.

If you’re unfamiliar with Light Widow, they are the creators of some clever solutions for camera operators and ACs. We already reported about their FRS-Light, a matte box solution with an integrated filter-reading screen. This e-paper display is also available in a standalone version called Cine Tag – which I always carry in my AC bag, as it’s just so convenient to replace old-fashioned velcro tags.

Now, Light Widow is back with a new product called FIZLock, which promises to solve some of the most common issues you might encounter when working with focus, iris, or zoom lens motors. Let’s take a look!

Light Widow FIZLock – articulating mounting arm for lens motors

The Light Widow FIZLock is an articulating mounting arm featuring a rod clamp at each end. One clamp can be used to mount the system onto a 19mm or 15mm rod on your camera rig, while the other clamp serves as a support interface for the lens motor. Adapters are included to make the system compatible with motors featuring either 19mm or 15mm rod mounting. This makes the FIZLock arm usable with nearly every lens motor on the market.

The core mechanism of this accessory relies on an adjustment knob that allows you to position the lens motor with millimetric precision. This means that you can move the motor away from the lens just enough to speed up a lens change, for example, without having to modify the position of the motor or any attached rod.

Moreover, Light Widow claims that the motor can be engaged with added pre-load to prevent it from accidentally disengaging from the lens when pulling focus using a high torque setting – a pretty tedious issue to deal with on set.
